The Business Intelligence Developer III role works under the minimal direction, coordinates the compilation of technical components of a project or program. The Business Intelligence Developer III has a strong focus on delivering a very high level of technical solutions and guidance to Jr. developers on the Joint Data analytics Team (JDAT) and its customers. The Business Intelligence Developer III will represent JDAT at all levels of the organization with absolute professionalism. In addition, the Business Intelligence Developer III will be responsible for leading top priority projects and providing management with the technical capabilities of the group. The Business Intelligence Developer III has a strong focus on overseeing junior analyst work and providing technical and substance-based direction for projects. In some cases, the position will require oversight and delegation of analyst project work. The Business Intelligence Developer III must be able to handle multiple assignments with competing priorities. Acts as a subject matter expert for multiple technologies and Epic data models. Demonstrates mastery of database languages and technology. Must have the ability to deliver on simultaneous projects with the highest quality of work. Expected to present work to all levels of the organization, including executives, industry colleagues and at conferences.

Responsibilities
  • 1. Application & dashboard development.
    • 1.1 Supports new application development including specification gathering, application programing, validation & analysis, user testing and maintenance.
    • 1.2 Creates program specifications, flow charts, and decision tables to be translated into appropriate computer instructions and/or codes for most complex programs.
      1.3 Oversight and technical guidance for Business Intelligence Developer I & II.
    • 1.4 Guides a team of analysts and/or programmers in the development and/or support of automated and manual systems; provides technical guidance in analytical tasks.
      1.5 Designs, programs and tests conversions, interfaces, reports, and other computer programs according to the departmental standards.
      1.6 Analyzes the need for development of in-house programs to support the new system, including programs needed to convert data from the old to the new system.
  • 2. Works with data architects to design relational and dimensional data models to verify that the model meets the use cases.
  • 3. Fosters an environment for department growth through education and knowledge transfer. Openly & proactively shares information with all team members.
  • 4. Leads groups of subject matter teams by overseeing subject area work requirements are met.
  • 5. Provides feedback to management regarding performance of Business Intelligence Developer I & II.
  • 6. High level understanding of workflow options, both Epic and departmental, to understand the pros and cons while developing application build Specifications.
  • 7. Follow system standards related to workflow analysis, system specs generation, proof of concept validation and sign off, system configuration, application, and integrated testing, change control, training, and implementations.
  • 8. Oversight on potential system enhancements from Epic and enhancement requests from end users.
  • 9. Participate in the development and documentation of internal procedures.
  • 10. Coordinates and interacts with vendors, both on and off-site.
  • 11. Performs all duties and responsibilities in such a manner in accordance with the "I Am Yale-New Haven" service excellence program.

Qualifications
EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree required, B.S. in an IT related field is preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
EXPERIENCE
In combination with a bachelor's degree, 8 years work experience in an IT related role. Work experience in a relevant clinical setting preferred with an emphasis on IT related functions (e.g., "Super User" for a clinical or business area).
LICENSURE
Epic Certification in a Clarity or application model required.
SPECIAL SKILLS
High level experience in database management and development, relational database querying as SQL. Business intelligence experience required, Tableau, SAP Web Intelligence, SAP Crystal Reports. Expert level understanding of Microsoft scripting languages and other object orientated programing languages. Knowledge of networking and web technologies, GitHub or other source control experience. ETL skills using SSIS or scripted tasks to accomplish highly complex tasks. Ability to work independently while being responsible for the oversight of others work. Strong written and verbal communication skills with a diverse range of individuals, comfortable speaking and managing up to large groups or audiences. Highly engaged in teamwork and team growth activities. High aptitude for understanding new concepts, technology & academic theory.
