Job description

We’re hiring an Electrical Engineer at Tannas Company, part of the Savant Group, at our Midland, Michigan headquarters.

You’ll design, develop, test, and support electrical systems and components for high-precision laboratory equipment and instrumentation. From circuit design and PCB layouts to validation testing, troubleshooting, and product support, you’ll play a hands-on role in developing reliable, innovative, and cost-effective solutions our customers depend on.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex technical problems, working across the full product lifecycle, and collaborating with Engineering, Manufacturing, Software, Service, Technical Support, and Quality to bring high-performing products from concept to production.

Who We Are

The Savant Group isn’t a single company—it’s a group of specialized businesses that solve complex, technical problems for customers around the world. Headquartered in Midland, Michigan, our companies—Savant Labs, Tannas Company, King, and the Center for Quality Assurance—build and support precision equipment and testing services used across lubrication, transportation, manufacturing, and energy industries.

What matters more than what we do - is how we do it.

We’re a team that values:

  • Precision and quality in everything we produce
  • Ownership instead of passing problems along
  • Collaboration and teamwork to solve challenges
  • Continuous improvement in processes, products, and performance

This is a hands-on environment where your work directly impacts product performance, reliability, manufacturability, and customer satisfaction.

What You'll Own

You’ll help design and support the electrical systems behind Tannas products and laboratory instrumentation. Your mission: develop reliable, high-quality electrical solutions that meet performance, safety, regulatory, customer, and business requirements.

This is a hands-on engineering role. You’ll design circuits, create schematics, support PCB layouts, develop validation plans, troubleshoot technical issues, and work closely with cross-functional teams throughout product development, manufacturing, launch, and ongoing product support.

What You'll Do

  • Design, develop, prototype, test, and validate analog and digital electrical circuits
  • Create, modify, and maintain electrical schematics, PCB layouts, and design documentation
  • Evaluate electrical designs for performance, reliability, manufacturability, serviceability, cost, and compliance
  • Conduct electrical analysis, simulations, troubleshooting, and root cause investigations
  • Integrate electrical systems with mechanical components, embedded firmware, and software
  • Develop and execute validation plans, verification testing, and design reviews
  • Select electrical components based on performance, availability, lifecycle, manufacturability, and cost
  • Prepare and maintain BOMs, specifications, drawings, test procedures, engineering change documentation, and technical reports
  • Support new product development projects by meeting schedules, milestones, and deliverables
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable regulatory, safety, and industry standards, including UL, CE, ISO, and other requirements
  • Provide engineering support during prototype builds, manufacturing implementation, product launches, and ongoing production
  • Support customer, field service, and manufacturing issues through technical analysis and corrective action recommendations
  • Assist with supplier evaluation, selection, and technical communication related to electrical components and assemblies
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to improve product quality, reliability, manufacturability, and efficiency
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and apply advancements to product designs when appropriate
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, technicians, or interns as assigned

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution required. Master’s degree, Professional Engineer license, or equivalent advanced engineering experience preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in electrical design and product development
  • Experience with scientific, laboratory, industrial, or instrumentation equipment preferred
  • Experience with embedded systems, PCB design, compliance testing, and product development preferred
  • Strong knowledge of analog and digital circuit design, PCB layout, and electrical system development
  • Proficiency using ECAD software, electrical test equipment, and engineering analysis tools
  • Ability to evaluate complex technical issues and apply sound engineering judgment
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and recommend practical solutions
  • Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Excellent organization, project management, documentation, and time management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting project deadlines

What You’ll Experience at Savant

We’re not a “check-the-box” kind of company—and we don’t hire people who are either. At Savant, you’ll be surrounded by people who move with urgency, take ownership, and care deeply about doing things right. We value precision, follow-through, and people who don’t wait to be told what to do.

If you’re wired to:

  • Take accountability without excuses
  • Move at the right pace
  • Solve complex technical problems instead of passing them along
  • Design with reliability, quality, and manufacturability in mind
  • Collaborate across teams to move products from concept to completion

…you’ll thrive here.

The Essentials - we’ve got the fundamentals covered—because they matter:

  • Strong health coverage for you and your family
  • 401(k) with a competitive company match
  • Paid time off that you’re actually encouraged to use
  • Life and disability coverage for peace of mind
  • Tuition reimbursement for continued growth
  • Employee assistance and wellness resources
  • Tools and opportunities to grow your skills and advance your career

Apply today to become an Electrical Engineer at Tannas Company and be part of helping us design and build products our customers rely on every day.
