What is a Junior Developer Startup job?

A Junior Developer Startup job involves working as an entry-level software developer in a fast-paced startup environment. You'll likely assist in coding, debugging, and testing software while collaborating with a small team. Startups often require developers to be adaptable, learn quickly, and take on various responsibilities beyond coding. This role provides great exposure to modern technologies and agile development practices. It’s a valuable opportunity to grow your skills and gain hands-on experience in a dynamic setting.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Junior Developer Startup position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Junior Developer at a startup, you need foundational knowledge of programming languages (such as JavaScript, Python, or Ruby), basic understanding of web development, and a degree in computer science or related experience. Familiarity with source control systems like Git, cloud services, and popular frameworks is important, and participation in coding bootcamps or relevant certifications is a plus. Strong problem-solving, adaptability, and effective communication are key soft skills for collaborating in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. These abilities help junior developers quickly learn, contribute to product development, and grow within the rapidly evolving startup landscape.

What are some common challenges a Junior Developer may face when working at a startup?

Junior Developers in startup environments often encounter rapid changes in project direction, shifting priorities, and the need to learn new technologies quickly. Unlike more established companies, startups may have less formalized onboarding and training, requiring you to take initiative and learn on the go. You'll likely collaborate closely with small, cross-functional teams, which means communication skills and flexibility are essential. Embracing these challenges can accelerate your growth, expand your technical skill set, and offer opportunities to make a direct, visible impact on the company's products.

Job description

Shape the Future of ALD at ASM

Global Product Support Engineer

At ASM, our technology powers the most advanced semiconductor devices in the world-and our people are at the heart of that innovation. As a Global Product Support Engineer, you'll operate as a systemlevel expert at the forefront of new product development, guiding cuttingedge ALD tools from early concept through successful customer adoption.

This is a highly visible role where your expertise directly influences product design, fab performance, and customer success on a global scale. You'll partner closely with hardware, software, controls, and process engineering teams, shaping how ASM's nextgeneration products are built, launched, and supported worldwide.

If you're motivated by complex technical challenges, global collaboration, and the opportunity to leave a lasting mark on semiconductor manufacturing, this role was built for you.

What You'll Be Working On

In this role, you'll combine deep technical ownership with global leadership and customer impact:

  • Lead implementation activities across shifts and sites, owning complex incident investigations
  • Support global audits and troubleshoot yield excursions across multiple fabs
  • Design and analyze advanced DOEs, apply ANOVA, and translate data into clear, actionable insights
  • Define and deploy global methodologies, including control limits and tool capability audits
  • Mentor junior engineers and help build a strong, technically excellent global support community
  • Drive crossfunctional RCCA efforts, implement systemic solutions, and track KPI improvements
  • Lead yieldenhancement initiatives, analyze probe and test data, and manage PCNs
  • Orchestrate global crisisresponse teams and represent ASM in customer QBRs
  • Act as the systemlevel technical authority for new product development programs
  • Collaborate with hardware, electrical, controls, process, and software teams throughout the design lifecycle
  • Influence product designs with a focus on serviceability, manufacturability, and preventive maintenance
  • Own first build and test activities in development labs, providing realtime feedback and solutions
  • Develop bestknown methods and procedures for service and maintenance execution
  • Lead customer fab readiness, installation, startup, and production qualification for Alpha and Beta shipments
  • Manage field issues and customer escalations during Alpha and Beta phases
  • Define critical spare parts strategies and ensure readiness for new product releases

What We're Looking For

You bring strong ALD expertise, systems thinking, and the confidence to lead at a global level:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electromechanical, Mechanical, Chemical, or Systems Engineering with 12+ years of experience
    • OR Master's degree with 8+ years
    • OR PhD with 4+ years
  • Handson experience with ALD equipment
  • Ability to travel 25-50%
  • Strong analytical capabilities, including DOE design and ANOVA
  • Proven ability to lead global initiatives and crossfunctional teams

What Sets You Apart
  • Experience supporting global audits and driving yieldenhancement projects
  • Proven success identifying and resolving multisite, systemic issues
  • Strong communication skills and confidence in customerfacing roles, including QBRs
  • A passion for mentoring and developing junior engineers

Why ASM?

At ASM, you won't just support products-you'll help define how they succeed worldwide. You'll work alongside top technical talent, influence nextgeneration ALD technology, and play a critical role in bringing innovative products from the lab to highvolume manufacturing.
