Client is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Project Development Engineer II to join their team. This position requires 75% travel around the country.

As a Project Development Engineer II, you will be at the forefront of the green building revolution, transforming how structures consume resources by leading the design, implementation, and management of advanced mechanical systems optimized to drive down energy costs. This role is dedicated to energy conservation and plays a vital role in lowering the carbon footprint of our built environment through innovative engineering and strategic decarbonization across both new construction and complex retrofits. By bridging the gap between sustainable design concepts and on-site reality, you will ensure that every system—from HVAC to water management—operates at peak sustainability, ensuring all mechanical installations are safe, efficient, and in strict compliance with evolving energy codes and project specifications.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Performs detailed on-site surveys and auditing of client sites including K-12 schools, Higher Ed, Federal, Corrections, Healthcare and Others.
  • Accurately documents existing conditions in predetermined software.
  • Develops a scope of work and performs energy calculations for existing and proposed conditions.
  • Project Management: Manage projects from concept through to completion, ensuring they meet deadlines, budgets, and quality standards. This involves coordinating with teams and stakeholders.
  • Additional accountability of quality and accuracy of project deliverables and timelines
  • Problem-Solving: Identify and solve complex mechanical problems.
  • Works on many phases or sub-tasks of project or entire projects of moderate complexity.
  • Plans projects or subtasks so they may be tracked and presented.
  • Assisting with scheduling of appropriate development resources to complete development tasks and project assignment.
  • May lead technical staff and subcontractors.
  • Understanding of mechanical systems and products. This includes understanding and interpreting blueprints, models, and technical drawings.
  • Project Management: Manage projects from concept through to completion, ensuring they meet deadlines, budgets, and quality standards. This involves coordinating with teams and stakeholders.
  • Additional responsibility in project development execution, in the form of internal and external stakeholder interaction.
  • Research and Innovation: Stay updated with new technologies and industry trends to continuously improve products and processes.
  • Works on many phases or sub-tasks of project or entire projects of moderate complexity.
  • Greater involvement in divisional efficiencies and operating improvements (specific examples: evaluation of new technologies, historical files and deliverable updates).

  • Lead the Development portion of our Challenger meeting from time to time.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient in auditing: Domestic water, Process Water, Steam, Building Envelope, HVAC Armor, Demand control ventilation, Others.
  • Experienced with several systems. Subject Matter Expert in at least one area or system. Working knowledge of several other areas of specialization. Technical accomplishments are documented within the company.
  • Technical Proficiency: A strong understanding of engineering principles and a high level of proficiency in mechanical drawings and specifications.
  • Data Analysis: The ability to collect, analyze, and interpret energy consumption data to identify trends and anomalies.
  • Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills to diagnose energy inefficiencies and develop cost-effective solutions.
  • Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills to prepare clear, concise reports and present complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Able to effectively train the work group and effectively lead work teams within the work group. Able to give effective presentations to general audiences and write convincing proposals and reports with all necessary backup material for lab consumption.
  • Project Management: Strong organizational and project management skills to oversee projects from conception to completion, ensuring they stay on schedule and within budget.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to work to ensure accuracy in calculations, designs, and reports.
  • Adaptability: The ability to stay current with evolving energy technologies, regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Financial Acumen: Understanding of financial metrics like return on investment (ROI), payback period, and life cycle cost analysis to justify and prioritize projects.
  • Proficient understanding of energy and water scope and documentation, measurement and verification practices
  • Proficient knowledge of estimating practices with internal and external resources.

Education and Experience:

  • The minimum requirement is a bachelor’s degree in engineering or science, with a focus on electrical, mechanical, environmental, or chemical engineering.
  • Prior work in the Construction industry is a plus.
  • Advanced - MS Office: Excel, Word. Other programs as required.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT), Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), Certified Water Efficiency Professional (CWEP), Project Management Professional (PMP) prefered.
