Job description

Are you passionate about improving mobility, safety, and sustainability through innovative traffic engineering solutions? KL Engineering is looking for a talented Traffic Engineer to join our growing team and contribute to impactful transportation projects across Wisconsin. What You'll Do:
  • Design & Analyze: Conduct traffic engineering studies including corridor planning, multimodal improvement plans, traffic impact analyses, safety studies, and WisDOT design reports.
  • Engineer & Innovate: Design traffic signals, roadway lighting, and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) under the guidance of project managers and principals.
  • Lead & Mentor: More experienced candidates will have opportunities to manage projects, lead teams, and mentor junior engineers.
  • Collaborate & Communicate: Work closely with clients and internal teams to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and exceed expectations.
  • Research & Solve: Perform traffic operations modeling, safety analysis, and develop improvement alternatives and countermeasures.
  • Observe & Document: Conduct field reviews, oversee data collection efforts, and prepare written and graphical summaries of findings.
What We're Looking For:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field.
  • Experience: 3–8+ years of traffic engineering experience.
  • Certification: Professional Engineer (PE) license required or ability to obtain within one year. PTOE or RSP certification preferred.
  • Skills: Proficiency in HCS, Synchro, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and Sidra; VISSIM and IHSDM experience strongly preferred. Strong technical writing, data interpretation, and communication skills.
  • Mindset: Self‑motivated, detail‑oriented, and eager to contribute to a collaborative team environment.
  • Eligibility: Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
