Job Description

The Architecture, Design & Engineering (AD&E) Manager plays an essential role within the New Business & Design Team by assisting in the delivery of creative solutions to complex design challenges for the Enterprise-primarily focused on Retail and integrating healthcare sectors into retail environments. This position supports the development, testing, and implementation of architectural exterior and interior spaces, CVS Brand standards, and sustainable design initiatives.

Working closely with the AD&E Senior Manager, this role helps coordinate communication between internal business owners and external design and construction teams, leading the creation and refinement of design and décor elements in collaboration with internal partners. Responsibilities include assisting with project documentation, design reviews, and coordination across architectural, mechanical, electrical, structural, civil, and environmental disciplines.

The role requires a strong understanding of design aesthetics to drive decisions with vendors and maintain alignment with CVS Health standards. Helps ensure all design concepts align with project goals, operational needs, brand standards, and budget parameters. Helps establish and enforce governance standards for design processes; including workflow optimization and continuous improvement; while managing external consultants and all project-specific architectural, engineering, and design documentation across disciplines.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with vendors and internal teams. This role provides day-to-day support for project activities, including scheduling, document management, and compliance tracking, while contributing to the team's commitment to quality and timely delivery.

Position Requirements Design Leadership
  • Help to spearhead design development for diverse project types, including Primary Care, Retail, Pharmacy Frontline, Sustainable Design, and New Business Formats, ensuring alignment with brand vision and strategic goals.
  • Support the execution of design intent across all phases-from concept through construction documentation and administration-by tracking progress and facilitating communication between teams.
  • Manage the creation of high-impact graphics and visuals across all project typologies, showcasing advanced proficiency in industry-standard design software.
  • Assist with design review for architectural design development and implementation of drawings for CVS Health facilities, ensuring compliance with CVS standards and industry best practices.
  • Support resolution of design and constructability challenges while maintaining scope, timeline, and budget constraints.
  • Create and help lead executive-level presentations, delivering strategic narratives to Executive Directors and Vice Presidents to influence decision‑making.
Project Team Leadership
  • Provide support to Senior Manager in facilitating coordination among external Architecture & Engineering teams, including architects, designers, engineers, and support staff, ensuring quality and timely delivery.
  • Communicates with consultants, contractors, sub‑consultants and other disciplines to ensure effective communication and coordination.
  • Provides mentorship and direction to junior staff while managing task assignments.
Vendor & Program Management
  • Support external vendors across design and construction projects by coordinating resources and facilitating adherence to design integrity, quality standards, budgets, and timelines.
  • Assist in maintaining project schedules and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to align with evolving business needs.
  • Support vendors through quality checks, workload coordination, A&E training assistance, and ensuring documentation and compliance with SLAs/KPIs.
  • Partner with internal CVS design departments and key stakeholders across Construction, Layout, RAAD, Marketing, Experience Strategy, Heart Haus, Program, and Procurement to align on design solutions, timelines, and budgets.
  • Support stakeholder engagement and client communication by providing clear updates, collaborative input, and strategic coordination.
Required Qualifications
  • 5-7 years of experience in Design, Architecture, Engineering, and associated processes.
  • Strong experience in various construction types and understanding of construction documents, specifications, materials, and processes.
  • Proficiency in reading and preparing Architectural & Engineering technical drawings and documentation.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, design, and problem‑solving skills with sensitivity to design intent and constructability.
  • Experience leading teams and external consultants.
  • Strong presentation skills; comfortable presenting at City Design Review boards and Planning commissions.
  • Positive attitude and proven ability to work collaboratively within a team setting.
  • Strong work ethic with accuracy and accountability for own work and team deliverables.
