We are seeking a Database Management Specialist to join our team. This position will be responsible primarily for the development and administration of large-scale Database Management Systems (DBMS) in support of our Federal client.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provides highly technical expertise in the use and optimization of large-scale DBMS.
  • Evaluates and recommends available DBMS products to support validated user requirements.
  • Defines file organization, indexing methods, and security procedures for user applications.
  • Administers, maintains, develops, and implements policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of customer databases.
  • Implements data models and database designs, data access and table maintenance codes.
  • Resolves database performance issues, database capacity issues, replication, and other distributed data issues.
  • Participates in the design and development of the DBMS at the highest level, and in defining the core system and subsystems.
  • Provides data related technical and administrative direction for personnel performing software development tasks, including the review of work products for correctness, adherence to the design concept and to user standards, and for progress in accordance with schedules.
  • Prepares milestone status reports and presentations on the system concept to colleagues, end user representatives and other key stakeholders.
  • Provides daily supervision and technical direction to staff to meet program deadlines.
  • Directs and participates in the conceptual system design and specification.
  • Reviews database information and software support requirements, as well as communication and response needs, and recommends operating systems and languages to support them.
  • Consults with user management to ensure that problems are properly identified and solved to meet requirements.
  • May supervise more junior Database Administrators.

Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Science or an Engineering discipline required.

Work Experience:
  • Over five (5+) years of experience administrating databases (e.g., Oracle, MS SQL Server, UDB/DB2, Sybase, Informix).
  • Experience developing test plans and test data for operating systems and support software.
  • Expertise supporting the design and documentation of data requirements, system test and implementation plans, and system demonstrations.
  • Experience with Data Modeling tools like ERWIN and Embacadaro Data Modeler are desirable.

Job Skills:
  • Manages development of database projects.
  • Plans and budgets staff and database resources.
  • Manages team of developers or administrators.
  • Demonstrates expertise in database design, installation, upgrades, and conversion.
  • Manages backup and recovery procedures, access security, database integrity, physical data storage design and management, database reporting.
  • Maintains database standards, performs performance tuning and data/database migrations across platforms.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
  • An Oracle Certified Associate (OCA), Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), Oracle Certified Master (OCM), DB2/UDB Certified Professional, Sybase Certified DBA or MCSE certification is mandatory.

Communication Skills:
Excellent business and technical communication skills including the following:
  • Written: email, documentation, reporting, etc.
  • Verbal: telephone, face-to-face, presentations, etc.

Travel:
  • Willing to travel occasionally as needed (up to 10%).

Environmental Requirements:
  • Mainly sedentary work in an office environment.
  • May be required to lift up to ten (10) pounds.
  • Flexible to work extended hours.
