The Joint, Office of the Secretary of Defense, Interagency Division (JOID) provides expert support services to a range of customers spanning across the Department of Defense, Federal Civilian, and international markets. JOID provides a diverse portfolio of analytical and programmatic capabilities to help our customers make informed decisions on their most challenging issues. Group W provides wargaming, warfare modeling and simulation, software development, data analytics, and operations research/system analysis support to the national security mission. As a leader in the fields of campaign, mission, and wargaming analysis we embrace the cycle of research paradigm, continually seeking to improve the multi-method application of tools, data, methods, and techniques to generate credible and resilient insights to inform decisions on the Department's most challenging issues spanning CONOPs, acquisitions, force structures, tactics, and strategies. Group W is the developer and maintainer of the Synthetic Theater Operations Research Model (STORM), the authoritative M&S tool accepted by the Joint Analytic Community for analysis of theater-level, multi-domain, joint warfare. Similarly, we developed and manage the Standard Wargame Integration and Facilitation Tool (SWIFT) for OSW as an adaptable environment to support joint force combatants' wargaming requirements. We have an immediate need for a Jr. Data Scientist to provide onsite support in Alexandria, VA. Responsibilities The Jr. Data Scientist will develop analytic products and services using data science techniques in support of the OSW Cost Assessment and Program Evaluation (CAPE) Defense Analyst Support Hub (DASH). The analyst will function as a part of the DASH Data Science team and support the team in completing statistical analysis, creating data visualizations, and developing analysis summary products for CAPE Study leads. Qualifications Required: * Active Secret clearance with the ability to secure TS/SCI. * Bachelor's degree in mathematics, operations research, computer science, data science, or other Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) disciplines. * Familiarity with statistical modeling, exploratory data analysis, and other data science methods. * Programming competency in R, Python, or other languages suitable for managing and analyzing large datasets. * Able to work fully onsite based on client needs. Desired: * Master's degree in mathematics, operations research, computer science, or other applicable Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines. * 1+ years of hands-on experience with data science techniques and/or data driven/analytics; areas of relevant experience include statistics, mathematics, database engineering, machine learning, and visualization. * Operational experience in a military service or DoW environment. * Ability to work effectively as part of an integrated team. * Adept at interfacing with clients.
