What can participants expect in terms of team collaboration and mentorship during a Full Time Data Science Rotational Program?

Participants in a Full Time Data Science Rotational Program typically work on diverse teams across multiple business units, allowing them to collaborate with data scientists, analysts, engineers, and business stakeholders. Each rotation usually includes dedicated mentorship from experienced professionals, who guide project work and career development. This structure provides a supportive environment for learning new tools and methodologies while building a broad professional network. Regular feedback sessions and cross-functional projects are common, giving participants a holistic view of how data science drives business decisions.

Is AI replacing data scientists?

AI is transforming the role of data scientists by automating routine tasks such as data cleaning and basic analysis, but it does not replace the need for human expertise in designing models, interpreting results, and making strategic decisions. Data scientists are increasingly required to develop and oversee AI systems, requiring skills in programming, statistics, and domain knowledge. The role evolves rather than disappears, emphasizing the importance of continuous learning and adaptation in the field.

Is 40 too late for data science?

Full Time Data Science Rotational Programs often accept candidates of various ages, and starting a career in data science at 40 is possible. Success depends on relevant skills such as programming, statistics, and experience with tools like Python or R, rather than age alone.

Is 30 too late for data science?

The Full Time Data Science Rotational Program is open to candidates of various ages, and starting a career in data science at 30 is common. Success depends on skills, relevant experience, and continuous learning in areas like programming, statistics, and machine learning, rather than age alone.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a Full Time Data Science Rotational Program, and why are they important?

To succeed in a Full Time Data Science Rotational Program, you typically need a strong background in statistics, programming (such as Python or R), and data analysis, often supported by a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a quantitative field. Familiarity with data visualization tools (like Tableau), machine learning libraries (such as scikit-learn or TensorFlow), and experience using databases (SQL) are commonly required. Excellent problem-solving, adaptability, and strong communication skills help you collaborate across diverse teams and effectively present insights. These skills are critical because the rotational structure demands quick learning, versatility, and the ability to deliver impactful data-driven solutions in different business contexts.

Are rotational programs full-time jobs?

Yes, rotational programs, including full-time data science rotational programs, are typically considered full-time employment opportunities. Participants usually work standard hours, receive benefits, and are employed under a formal contract similar to other full-time roles. These programs often provide training and exposure to different areas within a company over a set period.

What is the difference between Full Time Data Science Rotational Program vs Data Analyst?

Job description

ABOUT SLATE

At Slate, we're building safe, reliable vehicles that people can afford, personalize and love-and doing it here in the USA as part of our commitment to reindustrialization. The spirit of DIY and customization runs throughout every element of a Slate, because people should have control over how their trucks look, feel, and represent them.

| WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • SLATE is looking for a motivated, energetic, and organized engineer to join our growing team as part of the Slate Rotational Program - Engineering (SRP-E). This program is designed to attract, hire, and cultivate the next generation of automotive innovators for Slate Automotive, a battery electric vehicle (BEV) manufacturer. Inspired by industry-leading manufacturers, the program combines rigorous engineering job experiences, mentorship, and skill development to prepare early-career engineers for impactful careers in the rapidly evolving world of electric mobility.
  • Participants are hired into an engineering role and perform professional engineering duties throughout the rotational program. The engineer will rotate every 3-6 months across key electrical and software-focused domains, including vehicle communications, diagnostics, embedded systems, and electrical architecture. These rotations are designed to challenge both technical depth and systems-level thinking over an 18-24-month period. A Sr. Engineering Leader will be assigned as a mentor to support the engineer throughout the program.

| WHAT YOU GET TO DO

  • Perform engineering analysis, design evaluation, and technical problem-solving with a focus on electrical systems, embedded software, and vehicle communication networks (CAN/LIN/Ethernet).
  • Apply engineering judgment to evaluate technical challenges related to ECU communication, diagnostics implementation (UDS), and software feature execution, recommending robust and scalable solutions.
  • Lead and support hands-on engineering assignments involving vehicle diagnostics, CAN communication analysis, software validation, and system integration testing (e.g., CANoe/CANalyzer usage, DTC validation, signal integrity, ECU interaction).
  • Develop and execute validation strategies for vehicle software features, ensuring correct behavior across ECUs and compliance with system requirements.
  • Support development and integration of vehicle electrical architecture, including network topology, gateway communication, and diagnostic access strategies.
  • Responsible for completing engineering assignments that meet time, budget, and performance expectations.
  • Complete and present technical reports at the end of each rotation to senior Slate leadership, highlighting engineering outcomes, validation results, and opportunities for system or process improvement.
  • Utilize advanced engineering tools, lab equipment, and vehicle prototypes to support software validation, diagnostics verification, and communication analysis.
  • Engage in structured rotational assignments across systems engineering, software integration, manufacturing engineering, quality, and program management to build a comprehensive understanding of vehicle development.
  • Participate in a capstone innovation project focused on advancing vehicle software, diagnostics, or electrical architecture, culminating in a technical presentation to senior leadership.
  • Be an integral part of an energetic engineering team challenging the status quo of vehicle software and electrical system design.
  • Upon graduating from the program, the engineer will transition into a full-time role within electrical, software, or systems engineering.

| WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer science from an ABET-accredited program or equivalent education demonstrating advanced engineering knowledge.
  • Prior engineering internship or co-op experience within automotive or related technical environments preferred.
  • Undeniable passion in automotive engineering and emerging vehicle technologies.
  • Demonstrated initiative in advancing technical and leadership capabilities within engineering environments.
  • Proven communication skills and experience contributing to technical projects or cross-functional initiatives.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative engineering environment.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis. We are unable to offer visa sponsorship at this time.
