Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Storage Engineer to provide advanced support, routine maintenance, and optimization for both on-prem and cloud-based storage systems and services. This role involves complex problem-solving, script development, comprehensive documentation, and mentoring of junior staff. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of large-scale block and file storage systems and AWS storage services such as S3 and FSX. The role is ‘hands on’ and will require an individual with an ability to learn and adapt to new technologies. You will be expected to understand and adhere to best practices during planning and day-to-day execution of operations. The Storage Engineer reports to the Operations Manager and is a member of the Operations team.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Advanced Support: Provide escalated support for on-prem and cloud-based storage infrastructure and supporting systems. Address complex technical issues in collaboration with Systems, Network, and Application Engineers. Provide secondary support for compute platforms.
  • Storage Provisioning: Provisioning of block, file, and object storage volumes in both on-prem and public cloud infrastructure and fulfilling other service requests as needed. Configuration of deployed on-prem storage hardware as designed by the infrastructure team.
  • Storage Management: Enhance the security, reliability, and performance of storage systems through regular updates, vulnerability remediation, and ensuring system uptime. Perform upgrades and other maintenance tasks during scheduled maintenance windows following a change management process. Manage and maintain dedicated iSCSI storage networks and perform compatibility analysis for any planned upgrades.
  • Project Execution: Participate, support, and execute tasks for service improvement and storage technology implementation projects.
  • Ticket Resolutions: Respond to ticket escalations, working tickets through resolution, regularly updating tickets with status, following ticket hand-off procedures, and escalating tickets to senior team members when required.
  • Technology Oversight: Monitor and manage storage technology platforms including HPE Qumulo alongside InfoSight, HPE Alletra, AWS, and others encompassing configuration, installation, and patching.
  • Script Development: Develop and execute PowerShell or bash scripts for storage management or report generation with on-prem and cloud infrastructure.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation such as FAQs, Knowledge Base articles, troubleshooting guides, and SOPs.
  • Training & Mentoring: Mentor junior staff and provide training to enhance their skills in managing complex issues.
  • Flexible Role Adaptation: Adapt to various assigned duties in evolving technology scenarios.
  • Alerts and On-Call Rotation: Respond to critical alerts during the working day, and after hours per published on-call rotation schedule
Requirements:

Certifications: HPE storage certifications, AWS certification or equivalent experience.

Education: Bachelor's degree in IT, or equivalent experience in a related field.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years in IT or eDiscovery.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong working knowledge of on-prem storage arrays, block, file, and object storage systems, specifically HPE storage solutions, and AWS storage services.
  • Strong working knowledge of storage networking protocols, specifically iSCSI protocol with Jumbo frames for block, SMB/NFS protocols for file, and S3 for object storage.
  • Strong working knowledge of major server operating systems including Windows Server editions and Linux distributions.
  • Strong working knowledge of PowerShell scripting and/or bash scripting.
  • Working knowledge of server and desktop virtualization, Microsoft Hyper-V
  • Working knowledge of Active Directory and Group Policies.
  • Working knowledge of networking configurations, firewall policies and rules.
  • Practical understanding of information technology concepts, protocols, industry best practices and ITIL processes.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision and under your own initiative.
  • Ability to collaborate with other teams across multiple time zones and geographies.
  • Occasionally working evenings or weekends as required for scheduled or emergency maintenance.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Certifications: ITIL v3 or ITIL v4 Foundations certification. AWS Associate certification.
  • System Troubleshooting: Proficiency with virtualization, OS, and network systems.
  • Scripting Skills: Proficiency in Python, Ansible, Terraform or similar scripting and DevOps tools.

Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
