Position Description:
Design Solutions
  • Apply technical knowledge to drive outcomes for customers;
  • Work and problem solve independently on initiatives that align to the broader software engineering strategy;

Develop Software
  • Work independently, as well as collaboratively with team, in developing core software for the product that delivers outcomes;
  • Consistent and dependable in delivering core software that delivers outcomes and meets/exceeds the teams' expectations for stability, scalability, resilience, etc.;

Learn and Apply New Techniques
  • Share new ideas and techniques with team;
  • Encourage junior engineers to invest in learning as a part of their job;

Collaborate within the Team
  • Participate in team's collaboration sessions to provide technical expertise to solve problems/remove technical roadblocks for the team;
  • Participate in product planning and implementation. Help team to understand and decompose work;

Define Engineering Standards and Patterns
  • Contribute to developing engineering practices, templates and frameworks in collaboration with the team;

DevOps
  • Continuously assess technology to build more stable, scalable, and resilient software. Use data to measure progress;
  • Promote and expand on the use of the CI/CD pipeline to improve the deployment and build process;
  • Participate in team support rotation and provide expert knowledge on focus subsystems;

Select & Manage Technology Vendors

  • Participate in proof of concept/technology along with the vendor. Coach Engineers;
  • Provide guidance to junior engineers to help them learn foundational software engineering skills;
  • Provide technical expertise and help the team to solve technical/software issues;
  • Provide trainings to the junior developers and groom them;
  • Provide domain expertise on software products in their area to junior engineers to help them learn/grow their skills and contribute as part of the team;
  • Recruit/Build Talent
  • Engage in the tech community to build the Thrivent technology brand and position as the employer of choice in the market;
  • Participate in the interview process or be part of the panel to recruit the right talent to the team;
  • Contribute to the recruitment to define the structure of the interview process to hire the right talent to the team;

Position is based out of and reports to Thrivent's HQ in Minneapolis, MN, but allows for the option to telecommute from a home office anywhere in the United States.
Requirements:
Bachelor's or foreign equivalent degree in Applied Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field plus 5 years of progressive post-baccalaureate experience as a data engineer, specialist or consultant, or closely related occupation.
Must possess 5 years of experience in the following:
  • Development and maintenance of data warehouse and business intelligence using Informatica PowerCenter and Zena;
  • Working with Oracle, SQL, PL/SQL and other relational databases;
  • Designing and architecting data pipelines;
  • Processing data from OLTP/Flat file to staging and from staging to OLAP environment through various transformations;
  • Interacting with clients for requirement gathering and finalizing specifications.

Must possess 3 years of experience in the following:
  • Working with IICS and Snowflake

Must possess 2 years of experience in the following:
  • Working with Databricks

Must also have demonstrable experience in each of the following:
  • Datawarehouse model using STAR schema.
  • Developing and executing test cases.
  • Building reusable components for reporting and analytics
  • Acting as a subject matter expertise in data analysis, building optimized data pipelines, deploying and maintaining a large volume of heterogenous data to create enterprise data lake.

Position is based out of and reports to Thrivent's HQ in Minneapolis, MN, but allows for the option to telecommute from a home office anywhere in the United States.
Salary: at least $157,466/year
