Job description

Senior CAD Technician – Instrumentation & Controls

The Senior CAD Technician is responsible for producing and managing engineering drawing packages for instrumentation and control systems. This role ensures accurate, complete, and timely CAD deliverables while supporting engineers, project managers, and fabrication teams. It also includes coordinating CAD workload and maintaining drawing standards across multiple projects.


Key ResponsibilitiesCAD Production & Delivery
  • Produce and revise electrical and controls drawings, including wiring diagrams, loop drawings, panel layouts, subplates, and enclosures
  • Maintain drawing packages through all stages: initial release, revisions, markups, and as-built documentation
  • Manage CAD file organization, version control, and drawing standards
  • Support development and maintenance of Bills of Materials (BOMs) for control panels and instrumentation packages

Project & Design Support
  • Collaborate with engineers to develop submittal and construction drawing packages
  • Incorporate redlines and field markups from engineering and shop teams
  • Assist with project closeout by delivering complete as-built documentation
  • Provide limited design support for system-level submittals when required

Quality & Coordination
  • Review drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance prior to release
  • Coordinate with engineering, project management, and manufacturing teams to resolve design or fabrication issues
  • Ensure consistency and adherence to internal drafting standards

Requirements
  • Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD Electrical or equivalent)
  • Experience with electrical schematics, control panel layouts, and instrumentation drawings
  • Strong ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to interpret engineering specifications and technical documentation
  • Experience with industrial controls and BOM development preferred

Experience & Education
  • Associate degree in CAD, Engineering, or related field with relevant experience
    OR
  • Equivalent hands-on experience in CAD drafting and controls systems design (typically 4+ years)

Additional Information
  • May assist in guiding junior CAD staff or drafting support
  • Occasional site or facility travel required
