Position Purpose
The JCC Instructor serves as an instructional leader for lower secondary cadets and is responsible for the comprehensive management, execution, and continuous improvement of the middle school Junior Cadet Corps (JCC) program in alignment with national, state, and District standards. This role provides strategic leadership to assigned instructors while advancing cadet academic achievement, social development, patriotic awareness, character formation, leadership capacity, and physical growth.

Central to this purpose is the full integration and promotion of the Character, Honor, Integrity, Strength, Leadership (CHiSL) framework. The instructor ensures that CHiSL principles are embedded across classroom instruction, cadet leadership structures, experiential learning, and community engagement initiatives. The program's success depends on cultivating environments where CHiSL becomes an applied model for student conduct, decision-making, and personal development.

The instructor is responsible for managing the middle school JCC Program the CHiSL curriculum, including the preparation, coordination, and supervision of all co-curricular and service-learning activities. These activities include major events such as the military ball, drill meets, marksmanship matches, honor guard functions, orienteering competitions, and additional extracurricular opportunities that reinforce CHiSL competencies and mission-focused leadership development.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
 

• Teaches, assesses, evaluates, and documents student progress using formal and informal methods; identifies instructional materials and strategies to meet student needs.
• Implements and coordinates the Character, Honor, Integrity, Strength, Leadership (CHiSL) program, including lesson plans, curriculum, extracurricular activities, and cross-curricular objectives.
• Develops thematic units and projects that encourage extended interaction and creativity.
• Manages program property and oversees budget controls.
• Encourages parental involvement and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
• Submits required JROTC Department reports according to established timelines and procedures.
• Administers, advises, and evaluates extracurricular teams such as drill, rifle, physical training, academic challenge, and robotics.
• Selects, trains, and oversees cadets in key leadership roles (e.g., Commander of Cadets).
• Plans, coordinates, and supervises special events, including the annual military ball, drill meets, and the Final Review awards ceremony.
• Maintains communication and collaboration with school faculty and staff to promote cadet involvement, recruitment, and retention.
• Compiles, analyzes, and reports cadet achievement data for departmental use.
• Counsels, mentors, and tutors cadets as needed.

• Follows established safety procedures and techniques, including safe lifting and equipment operation.
• Corrects unsafe conditions when possible and promptly reports hazards that cannot be immediately resolved.

• Knowledge of military personal fitness standards and grooming standards (In accordance with all branch specific policies, e.g., Army Regulation 670-1).

• Travels to district buildings and professional meetings as needed.

 
Physical & Mental Demands, Work Hazards
 

• Tools/Equipment Used:  Standard office equipment; classroom instructional tools; military instructional equipment for drills, exercises, and armory operations.
• Posture:  Prolonged sitting and standing; occasional stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
• Motion:  Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching; frequent walking and extensive marching; frequent leading of fitness training, walking, running, and jumping.
• Lifting:  Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds).
• Exerting:  Frequently exerts 10-25 pounds of force to move objects; occasionally exerts 20-70 pounds of force.
• Environment:  Works 60% indoors and 40% outdoors with exposure to weather, noise, and variable conditions; may encounter substandard barracks/housing and related health/safety risks; may require irregular or extended hours.
• Attendance:  Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position; requires occasional irregular and/or prolonged hours.
• Mental Demands:  Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions; regularly required to speak publicly or listen intently to other points of view; Leads and supervises parades requiring extensive marching and voice projection.

 
Minimum Required Qualifications
 

• Education:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required;
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university preferred;
  • Completed Military Education for Grade.
• Certification/License:
  • Valid Texas Teacher Certificate appropriate for grade level and/or subject area required;
  • Valid Texas Driver's License;
  • Insurable by the District's insurance carrier.
• Experience:
  • Noncommissioned Officer (E6 E9), Army Warrant Officer or Commissioned Officer with a minimum of 4 years military service (preferred)
  • Honorably discharged from military service not longer than 4 years;
  • Troop level experience (company level, Battalion, Brigade);
  • Executive Staff experience.
• Additional Requirements:
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and automation technology skills.

 
INSURABILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL DRIVERS
 

• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Must have no positive drug or alcohol tests, including pre-employment, random, post-accident, or reasonable suspicion testing.
• Must maintain a valid Texas Department of Public Safety Driver Record (Type 3A Certified), reflecting all crashes and violations.
• Must have no more than two violations within the previous 36 months, which may include:
  • Moving traffic violations (no more than one preventable accident).
    • Failure to provide proof of a valid driver's license or proof of insurance.
    • Equipment violations.
• Must have no DUI (drug or alcohol). Must have no incidents involving leaving the scene of an accident (bodily injury or property damage).
• Must have no convictions for vehicular assault, manslaughter, or homicide.
• Must not operate a vehicle with a suspended or revoked license.
• Must have no convictions for reckless driving, speed contests, drag racing, or highway racing.
• Must have no use of a vehicle in the commission of a felony.
• Must have no unauthorized use of a vehicle, including operating a vehicle without the owner's permission.
• Must not permit an unlicensed driver to operate a vehicle.
• Must have no speeding violations exceeding 20 mph over the posted limit.
• Must have no disqualifying history of convictions in either commercial or personal motor vehicles.
• Additional restrictions may apply as required by FWISD's fleet insurance carrier
