Advisory Business Intelligence Engineer
Location: Atlanta, Georgia (Remote)
Duration: 6 month contract to hire
Salary Range: $150-160K
*Candidates must be able to work directly on w2 without requiring sponsorship now or in the future.
Role Overview
The Advisory BI Engineer is a senior technical and strategic leader responsible for designing and delivering enterprise-grade semantic models, driving BI engineering excellence, and advising leadership on data practices. This role is a blend of hands-on engineering and architectural leadership. You will own the design and implementation of Lakehouse semantic models in Databricks, apply Kimball modeling principles, mentor junior engineers, lead project delivery, and serve as a trusted advisor to both Data Engineering and Analytics leadership.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and development of enterprise semantic layers using Databricks Lakehouse and Unity Catalog.
  • Build scalable, performant semantic models aligned to Kimball dimensional modeling best practices.
  • Provide hands-on development in SQL and Python, including complex transformations and model optimization.
  • Conduct code reviews, enforce engineering standards, and provide final sign-off on BI engineering deliverables.
  • Mentor and guide junior BI engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to leadership on BI architecture, modeling strategy, and data governance.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of builds and manage highly visible projects with assigned engineers.
  • Partner with Data Engineering and Analytics teams to ensure semantic models meet business and technical requirements.
Required Qualifications
  • 8-12 years of experience in Business Intelligence Engineering, Data Engineering, or Analytics Engineering.
  • Experience as a lead or hands-on manager overseeing BI projects and driving processes.
  • Deep expertise in Databricks, including Lakehouse architecture, medallion architecture, Delta, and Unity Catalog.
  • Strong command of SQL, Python, and CI/CD workflows.
  • Proven experience building enterprise semantic layers and dimensional models using Kimball principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers, lead technical initiatives, and influence architectural decisions.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to advise leadership and translate technical concepts into business value.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with dbt.
  • Background in Logistics or Retail analytics.
  • Familiarity with BI governance, metadata management, and performance tuning in large-scale environments.
