Job description

Power BI Developer - VMS/MSP Reporting & Dashboards
Area of Focus: Technical - Business Intelligence & Data Visualization
Location: Remote (US)
Engagement Type: Contract, $60/hour
Reports to team supporting: BI Team, North America
Main Purpose of Role
We're looking for a Power BI Developer to build and maintain reporting and dashboards that turn VMS/MSP program data into clear, actionable metrics for internal and client-facing use. This role pulls data from a variety of sources - including VMS platforms, manual inputs, and existing systems - and works toward reducing manual effort through automation over time. You'll work collaboratively with the BI team and business stakeholders, translating reporting requests into reliable, well-structured Power BI solutions.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports, including data modeling, DAX, and visual layer development.
  • Support VMS report configuration and data integration (e.g., Fieldglass, Beeline, VNDLY), including validating data pulled via API connections.
  • Pull and consolidate metrics from multiple sources - including manual calculations - for recurring (typically monthly) reporting.
  • Build and optimize SQL queries and data structures to support dashboard and reporting needs.
  • Identify and implement automation opportunities for recurring reports and refresh workflows to reduce manual effort, working toward a fully automated solution.
  • Troubleshoot Power BI, DAX, Power Query, and data issues as they arise.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders (and, as needed, clients) to gather reporting requirements and walk through completed dashboards.
  • Apply staffing/MSP industry context - SLA/KPI metrics, cost-savings methodology, rate benchmarking - so outputs are business-relevant, not just technically correct.
  • Document builds and processes clearly enough for others on the team to maintain or extend the work.

Skills Required
  • Solid working proficiency in Power BI: DAX, Power Query, data modeling, and dashboard/report design.
  • SQL proficiency for querying and validating source data.
  • Strong Excel and MS Office skills, with comfort doing metrics/numbers calculations.
  • Experience with at least one VMS platform (Fieldglass, Beeline, or VNDLY) preferred, or willingness to ramp up quickly.
  • Familiarity with data warehouse concepts and working with multiple, disparate data sources.
  • Clear written and verbal communication - able to explain reporting logic to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated and comfortable working within a project-based environment with moderate autonomy.
  • Nice to have: exposure to Microsoft Fabric, Azure, Databricks/Snowflake, AWS, or Python for automation/analysis.

Educational Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Mathematics, or equivalent practical experience.

Experience
  • 5+ years of experience in business intelligence, reporting, or data analysis roles, with meaningful hands-on Power BI development experience.
  • Experience working with or supporting an MSP program, or exposure to a major VMS platform (Fieldglass, Beeline, or VNDLY), preferred.
  • Experience in staffing, recruitment, or talent acquisition environments is a plus, but not required.

Compensation
Pay rate: $60/hour, contract. Rate reflects a hands-on Power BI Developer role focused on dashboard build/maintenance and reporting automation, rather than an architecture-owning or team-lead level position.
