Job description

The Fabrication Technician responsible for building, populating, wiring, and terminating equipment racks for high end Audio Visual and Videoconferencing facilities. Further, the Fabrication Technician will work with the Commissioning Engineering Team to stage, test, troubleshoot, and prep systems for shipping. The Fabrication Technician is responsible for meeting project commitments from a technical standpoint.


Responsibilities:

  • Regularly communicate with internal and external customers to achieve mutually desirable outcomes.
  • Troubleshoot issues and make recommendations to internal parties and customers regarding concerns or issues.
  • Ensure resolution of problems by working closely with assigned projects.
  • Communicate answers to complex questions and respond to detailed inquiries about fabrication issues.
  • Handle and protect all internal and external confidential information, utilizing discretion and judgment based on company policies and procedures.
  • Ensure equipment racks are built, connected, and tested according to engineering drawings.
  • Red-line engineering drawings to match fabrication adjustments.
  • Assist in the quality testing of equipment prior to dispatch to the field.
  • Provide leadership to junior employees through quality workmanship.
  • Lead multiple personnel throughout large-scale fabrication efforts.
  • Perform cable dressing inside of racks.


Technical Responsibilities:

  • Experience in the following areas is required: Audio Visual Solutions including Videoconferencing, Multimedia, Distance Learning, Facility coordination or Networking systems.
  • Extensive use of business computer systems including Microsoft Office applications such as MS Word, Excel, Outlook and MS Project.
  • Working knowledge of DSP devices – Clear One / Vortex / Biamp – would be desirable but not necessary.
  • Working knowledge of Control Systems – AMX / Crestron – would be desirable but necessary.
  • CTS certification required within 6 months.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong leadership and analytical skills.
  • High level of initiative and autonomy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate at all levels with clients and Yorktel.
  • Ability to develop business relationships to accomplish organizational goals.
  • Strong customer orientation and ability to interface with VP-level management in customer environments.
  • Proficient in cable dressing inside racks.
  • Ability to read and understand flow diagrams.
  • Ability to solder to IEC standards.
  • Basic knowledge of Ohm’s law.
  • Ability to work with others or independently, maintaining professionalism in stressful and fast-paced environments.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Self-motivated with strong initiative.
  • Results-oriented.
  • Willingness to learn and progress.


Education and Experience:

  • Experience in Audio Visual Solutions, including videoconferencing, multimedia, distance learning, facility coordination, or networking systems.
  • Working knowledge of DSP devices (Clear One / Vortex / Biamp) desirable but not necessary.
  • Extensive use of business computer systems, including Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, MS Project).
  • Strong program management knowledge and experience, including group facilitation and team-building skills.
  • Experience developing and implementing improvement and change programs/processes.
  • Experience managing third-party suppliers.


Additional Requirements:

  • May require occasional lifting (up to 50 lbs).
  • Requires extensive sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Domestic travel requiring multi-night stays within and at times outside the local work area.
  • Valid passport: International travel may be required.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license.
  • Must be willing to complete background checks and drug tests as required by current or future contracts.
  • Must be willing to apply for security clearances, suitability, and other related clearances to work at certain customer locations.
  • Working knowledge of York Telecom policies and procedures.
