Job Overview:ย Theย Senior Staff Accountantย is responsible for performing and overseeing complex accounting functions, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, and supporting month-end and year-end close processes. This role serves as a technical accounting resource, works independently with minimal supervision, and provides guidance to junior accounting staff. The Senior Staff Accountant partners closely with the Controller and other cross-functional teams to maintain strong internal controls and drive continuous process improvements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Prepare, review, and post journal entries in accordance with GAAP
  • Perform complex account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies
  • Lead assigned areas of the month-end and year-end close processes
  • Prepare financial statements, schedules, and management reports
  • Analyze financial results and provide variance explanations

Compliance & Controls

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and internal controls
  • Assist with internal and external audits; prepare audit schedules and documentation
  • Support internal control testing, as applicable
  • Maintain and improve accounting policies and procedures

Process Improvement & Systems

  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, efficiency, and accuracy
  • Assist with accounting system implementations, upgrades, and testing
  • Develop and maintain process documentation and work instructions

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Serve as a subject-matter expert for assigned accounting areas
  • Provide training, guidance, and informal mentoring to junior staff
  • Partner with cross-functional teams (AP, AR, Operations, Payroll)
  • Support special projects and ad-hoc analyses as needed

Qualifications and Skills:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • 4+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Public accounting experience a plus

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting principles
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas)
  • Experience with ERP/accounting systems (e.g., NetSuite, Oracle, SAP, Dynamics)
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Certifications (Preferred)

  • CPA or CPA-eligible strongly preferred
