Salary: $41,350.40

Job Overview:

Elder Options is seeking a qualified individual to fill a full-time, professional position for the SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders) Program. Candidates must have excellent communication and customer service skills, strong computer skills, be self-directed, organized and have the ability to prioritize work effectively. Human service/aging network experience a plus. Must be caring, credible and committed. Candidates cannot hold an insurance license. Travel throughout sixteen county area is required and is reimbursed at State rate.


Key Responsibilities:

SHINE is a volunteer-based Medicare counseling program under the auspices of the Florida Department of Elder Affairs and Elder Options, covering a 16-county area in north central Florida, with offices in Gainesville. SHINE volunteers and staff are a dedicated, highly trained, unbiased and respected corps of individuals who provide assistance regarding Medicare by phone, at established counseling sites throughout the service area, and via web-based platforms.


The SHINE Program Specialist supports the SHINE Program by assisting with the following:

· Providing administrative support to the SHINE Liaison, volunteers, and the program overall

· Coordinating the provision of materials and supplies

· Managing volunteer equipment, materials, and supplies

· Maintaining the database of volunteer records, training, activity time, and equipment

· Providing Medicare counseling to beneficiaries, families, and caregivers

· Participating in SHINE presentations and outreach activities

· Producing and distributing reports


Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors degree (B.A./B.S.) from four-year college or university; or four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Required Skills and Abilities:

Successful completion of the SHINE Basic Training, SHINE Presentation Skills Certification, and training for STARS, MIPPA, and SMP is required for maintaining this position. Training will be provided. Regular and consistent attendance is essential to perform the vital functions of this position. This role requires the use of discretion, independent judgment, ability to make complex decisions, and the ability to perform a variety of advanced technical duties, many of which are time sensitive in nature.
