Job Summary:
The Indy Art Center Summer Art Camps emphasize the experience with the arts. Along with making original creations, campers participate in creative group activities. Camp Instructors offer young students high-quality and age-appropriate fine art instruction, encouraging creative self-expression and fostering positive risk-taking within a nurturing artistic community. The Indy Art Center believes that by participating in the creative process, young artists improve their artistic abilities, as well as their communication, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills. The ideal candidate will have experience working with youth, a general knowledge of various art techniques and materials, be dependable, and have a positive and friendly attitude.
We are currently seeking enthusiastic and caring instructors for the following mediums:
Crochet (ages 10-14)
Cake art (ages 10-14)
Printmaking (ages 10-14 and 14-18)
Stop Motion (ages 6-10)
Job Responsibilities:
- Prepare course material within specified timelines and budget
- Create developmentally appropriate camp lesson plans that focus on art making, art history, aesthetics, and criticism and align with the listed Camp Description as written by the Director of Youth, Teen, and Teacher Programs.
- Research knowledge about the art, artists, and cultures to be presented in class as necessary
- Prepare art examples as necessary
- Work with the camp director and Site leads to tailor lesson plans by developing modifications for special needs, various levels of ability, and prior student experience.
- Use time efficiently
- Support teaching students by utilizing best practices from both the Art Center and Artistic Judgement
- Implement planning through a variety of techniques including, but not limited to, discussions, projects, exhibits, visual aids, and critiqes
- Maintain a safe secure and healthy educational environment by establishing classroom behavior expectations with consistent enforcement, communicating safety information and procedures to students, and following all Art Center policies and procedures.
- Ensure accurate documentation of class outcomes by taking attendance and completing requested student documentation.
- Manage materials in an effective and sustainable manner
- Ensure adequate and appropriate utilization of materials, supplies, tools and equipment.
- Clean and store all materials, equipment and studio space at the end of each class session.
- Be an Engaged Team member to promote personal growth and development of best practices in the Education Department
- Attend meetings and trainings as determined by program staff
- Responds to emails and approval requests in a timely manner.
- Maintain active communication with the Camp Director and Site leads.
- Maintain positive interactions in promotion and retention of Art Center programs and activities.

- Problem Solving: Ability to be flexible, resourceful, and inspiring in order to create and deliver effective instruction.
- Time Management: Strong ability to manage multiple projects and calendars to ensure on time completion working independently and as part of a team.
- Organization: Adeptly manage tasks demonstrating exceptional organizational abilities that ensure efficient and timely project completion.
- Engagement: Captivate students through compelling communication and active listening to foster meaningful connections and interactions in the camp setting.
Additional Education/Knowledge/Skills Requirements:
- Experience working with youth and/or teens aged 2-18.
- Teaching experience in a camp, school, or outreach setting is preferred.
- Classroom/behavior management experience is preferred.
- Art professional experience
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Assistants are required to travel to and from the Indy Art Center.
- Occasionally required to lift heavy objects up to 25 lbs.
- Perform physical tasks related to the medium being taught.
- Instructors must pass a criminal background check prior to employment.
