Senior Java/OpenJDK Migration Engineer (Technical Lead)

Pay Rate: $65–80/hr W2 | Weekly Pay | 6 Month Contract
Overview
We are placing three Senior Java/OpenJDK Migration Engineers on a 6 month contract supporting a major enterprise Oracle Java removal and OpenJDK migration program. The work spans approximately 20,000 Windows endpoints across a large-scale endpoint remediation initiative. This is hands-on technical leadership — not project coordination. The right candidates will own discovery, removal, migration, deployment coordination, and executive reporting end to end.
You will work directly with enterprise IT and security leadership, application owners, and vendors to execute the migration at scale. Strong PowerShell scripting, SCCM deployment expertise, and the ability to communicate clearly with executive stakeholders are required.
What You'll Do
- Lead Oracle Java JRE/JDK discovery, removal, and OpenJDK migration across approximately 20,000 Windows endpoints
- Build and validate Java removal procedures using PowerShell, batch scripting, WMI/CIM queries, and registry analysis
- Identify Java-dependent applications, categorize users and endpoints by remediation path, and coordinate with application owners on compatibility testing
- Coordinate SCCM deployment waves and own enterprise packaging for removal and OpenJDK distribution
- Validate applications against OpenJDK and troubleshoot Java version, JAVA_HOME, PATH, and environment variable issues
- Produce executive-level reporting, VP compliance dashboards, and weekly status updates
- Create help desk readiness documentation, FAQs, escalation procedures, and end-user migration communications
- Support security hardening to prevent unauthorized Java reinstallation
What You Bring
- 7+ years of enterprise Windows endpoint engineering experience
- Hands-on Oracle Java JRE/JDK removal and OpenJDK migration experience at scale
- Deep working knowledge of OpenJDK distributions and Java compatibility troubleshooting (JRE vs JDK, JAVA_HOME, PATH, environment variables)
- Advanced PowerShell scripting, batch scripting, WMI/CIM queries, and registry analysis
- SCCM packaging and enterprise endpoint deployment ownership
- Large-scale Windows endpoint remediation experience — software removal, vulnerability reduction, licensing cleanup
- Application owner and vendor coordination experience on compatibility validation
- Executive-level reporting and stakeholder communication track record
- Available for an ASAP start and willing to commit 100% to a 6 month engagement
- US Citizen or Permanent Resident — no sponsorship available
Preferred Experience
- BeyondTrust or similar privileged access management tools
- Healthcare or large enterprise environment exposure
- Prior remediation projects involving software licensing, vulnerability reduction, or unauthorized software removal
- Experience producing help desk documentation, FAQs, support procedures, and migration communications
Compensation & Benefits
- $65–80/hr W2, paid weekly
