Job description

Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) is seeking a highly skilled Software Test Engineer to support a high-profile customer at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB) in Dayton, Ohio. As part of an Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC) team, the engineer will contribute to the development of architecture frameworks and processes for an application pipeline, particularly focused on SAP applications. This role is essential to supporting multiple programs by translating high-level requirements into detailed, testable specifications and establishing robust requirements traceability from program directives to software implementations and verification test cases.
The Software Test Engineer will collaborate closely with commodity and platform software development teams, as well as test engineers, to validate advanced military software applications. Working on-site at WPAFB is critical for direct customer coordination, ensuring technical excellence and mission success. The ideal candidate will bring strong analytical and communication skills, along with a commitment to delivering high-quality engineering solutions in support of cutting-edge military platforms.
Responsibilities:
• Scientific Methods & System Engineering Processes: Advise and assist government stakeholders by utilizing scientific methods and applying robust systems engineering (SE) processes to ensure continuous data development and testing of system components for Weapons, Aircraft, and Ground projects and programs.
• Data Development & Optimization: Generate optimized data files to support projects and programs, ensuring high performance and reliability in operational environments.
• Rapid Reprogramming: Perform rapid reprogramming of fielded data to resolve operational issues and implement enhanced capabilities to address evolving mission requirements.
• Collaboration: Coordinate with contractors and DoD laboratories to guarantee seamless integration of data developed for programs.
• System Interface Requirements: Identify, describe, and analyze system interface requirements and standards, along with interoperability requirements, to ensure compatibility across platforms and systems.
• Data Analysis: Conduct comprehensive data analysis by developing and documenting data reduction and processing software, generating computer-based data products, and building/improving data storage/retrieval systems.
• Test Methodology Development: Develop and refine new test methodologies as needed to execute testing efforts effectively for programs.
• Test & Evaluation (T&E) Support: Provide hands-on support for a wide variety of test and evaluation activities conducted at multiple locations, ensuring test plans and schedules align with program objectives.
• Simulation Development: Develop and employ simulations to verify and validate data products before fielding, ensuring reliability and mission readiness.
• Hardware-in-the-Loop Testing: Execute or analyze hardware-in-the-loop testing of threat simulation systems to verify and validate data products prior to operational deployment.
• Engineering Analysis: Perform detailed engineering analysis of test and evaluation data, interpreting system performance results, verifying accomplishment of test objectives, and supporting additional technical analysis as needed.
• Fielding Recommendations: Provide recommendations for the deployment of various types of data products based on test results and thorough system performance evaluations.
• Technical Status Briefings: Create and deliver technical status reports and briefings, summarizing test progress, key accomplishments, and identified challenges associated with programs.
• T&E Resource Management: Advise and assist in the management, maintenance, and upgrade of test and evaluation resources, including specialized test support equipment and infrastructure.
• Integration Support: Support the integration of new or modified equipment and systems to enhance current capabilities and maintain system performance.
• Acquisition Support: Provide technical expertise for acquisition activities throughout all phases of the acquisition lifecycle, including:
o Participating in acquisition strategy development and planning.
o Supporting decision support systems and modeling efforts.
o Maintaining test schedules aligned with program milestones.
o Participating in user requirements groups, TIMs (Technical Interchange Meetings), PMRs (Program Management Reviews), TPWGs (Test Planning Working Groups), ITTs (Integrated Test Teams), PDRs (Preliminary Design Reviews), CDRs (Critical Design Reviews), and other related reviews.
• Documentation Development: Prepare and maintain user support documentation, including system handbooks, test plans, test reports, and systems software documentation in accordance with AFI 10-703.
• Stakeholder Integration: Serve as a liaison between government program offices, contractor development teams, testing organizations, and training systems designers to ensure alignment between technical outputs and stakeholder needs.
Qualifications:
• Possess a minimum of 10 years of relevant Department of Defense (DoD) work
