We are seeking an Jr. System Administrator for one of our government clients

Position Summary: The Jr. Systems Administrator supports the daily operations and maintenance of server and storage systems, assisting with backup systems, monitoring server health, applying system updates to reduce vulnerabilities, and performing basic troubleshooting in virtualized environments such as VMware or Hyper-V. Additional responsibilities include user account management, documentation support, and participation in team projects aimed at enhancing infrastructure reliability and efficiency. This role encourages the development of technical skills in areas such as cloud platforms, automation, and disaster recovery planning, and may require travel to support infrastructure needs across multiple sites.

Deploys the release of new technologies as well as designs, installs, configures, maintains and performs

system integration testing of PC/server operating systems, related utilities and hardware. Responsible for

trouble shooting server problems as reported by users. Researches, evaluates and recommends software and

hardware products. Supports Web access and electronic messaging services and maintains a secure systems

environment. Provides new hardware specifications to users based on application needs and anticipated

growth, installs new servers and maintains the server infrastructure.

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field. Or equivalent work

experience.

Experience:

A minimum of 3 years of IT work experience. Requires a high level of expertise in multiple system environments.

Complexity:

Intermediate professional level role. Defines procedures for monitoring and evaluates, diagnoses and

establishes work plan to resolve system issues. Performs troubleshooting for complex hardware, software and

network problems. Works on multiple projects as a project team member, occasionally as a project leader. May

coach more junior technical staff.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Participate in team projects, meetings, and assignments to support infrastructure initiatives.

• Support the configuration and administration of virtual servers in VMware and/or Hyper-V environments.

• Participate in patching and system updates to reduce vulnerabilities and maintain system health.

• Assist in maintaining and verifying backup systems and participate in disaster recovery testing and documentation.

• Support user and group management using Active Directory and group policy.

• Help configure and maintain core services such as DNS, DHCP, DFS, and Certificates.

• Document technical procedures, system configurations, and troubleshooting steps as directed.

• Read, understand, and enforce the departmental procedures and policies.

• Document technology solutions, server configurations, and insights from monitoring and management tools.

• Ensure accurate incident tracking and asset management through service desk ticketing and department inventory control systems.

• Travel to remote locations to provide support and assist with equipment deployment, as needed.

• Participate in after-hours work and on-call rotation as assigned.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

• Report to work in the office 5 days a week.

Education:

Associate’s Degree or Technical Institute Degree/Certificate in Information Systems or related fields or equivalent work experience.

Experience: Minimum of 3 years of IT work experience in a technical support, help desk, or junior systems administration role. Familiarity with ticketing systems, documentation practices, and basic networking is preferred.

• Azure Fundamentals

Note:

As a member of the technology team, they need the ability to be contacted to respond to requests /incidents. The contractor needs to have a smartphone with data service that complies with FDOT agency security requirements. Smartphones must be able to receive security updates from the manufacturer or carrier and maintained throughout the contractor's tenure at the agency. The contractor will utilize mobile applications such as Outlook, Teams & ServiceNow, which should also be kept up to date through the platform application store.
