What are joint operations?

Joint Operations refer to coordinated military activities conducted by forces from two or more branches of a nation's armed services, such as the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines. These operations are aimed at achieving a common objective through integrated planning, command, and execution. The goal is to maximize effectiveness by leveraging the unique capabilities of each service branch, ensuring seamless cooperation and communication. Joint Operations are essential in modern warfare and disaster response, as they allow for greater flexibility, efficiency, and resource sharing among the participating forces.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in joint operations?

To excel in Joint Operations, you need a solid understanding of military strategy, operational planning, and interagency coordination, often supported by advanced military education and relevant operational experience. Familiarity with command and control (C2) systems, secure communications platforms, and specialized joint operations planning tools is crucial. Strong leadership, decision-making, and cross-cultural communication skills set top performers apart in this field. These capabilities are essential for ensuring seamless collaboration, mission success, and effective response in complex, multi-force environments.

How do professionals in joint operations typically collaborate with different branches or agencies during missions?

Professionals in Joint Operations often work in multidisciplinary teams that include members from various military branches or government agencies. Effective collaboration requires clear communication, standardized procedures, and a strong understanding of each organization's capabilities and protocols. Regular joint training exercises and briefings are common, helping to build trust and streamline coordination during real-world missions. This collaborative environment not only enhances mission success but also provides opportunities for team members to develop broader operational and leadership skills.

Prevailance is seeking an experienced, mission-focused professional to serve as a Senior Operations Analyst in support of the CJCS J6 Directorate for Cyber and Command, Control, Communications, and Computers Integration (DDC5I).

The Senior Operations Analyst will support the CJCS J6 Directorate by applying operational expertise to develop executive-level briefing materials, conduct visual analyses, and enable DoD leadership to make informed decisions. The role focuses on advancing Cyber and C4 capabilities, including CJADC2 and information operations (IO), and contributes to integrating requirements and assessments aimed at building an interdependent joint force. The Analyst will work within a small, agile team environment to conduct high-level staff coordination and detailed technical analysis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform requirements analysis and feasibility studies for critical Cyber and C4 projects
  • Provide support to Joint Staff Communities of Interest and coordinate with various services and organizations
  • Develop technology conceptual designs, conduct special studies and analyses, and assess technical approaches for system improvement
  • Lead staff coordination at Joint Staff and Combatant Command levels, ensuring findings are integrated into actionable insights
Requirements:
  • Operational Experience: At least 5 years of military experience, preferably on a Combatant Command (COCOM), Major Command, or Joint Staff. Experience as an action officer on a major staff, with multi-service or multinational exposure, is preferred
  • Command and Control (C2): 4-6 years in Command and Control at the strategic and operational levels
  • Writing Skills: Proven experience in crafting briefing papers for flag/general officers (FO/GO) and strong communications skills
  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in Microsoft Office (especially PowerPoint and SharePoint) for information management, COI calendar management, and report production
  • Analytical Experience: Experience in supporting major concept studies, conducting independent research, and working across services and organizations to define requirements, perform traceability, and evaluate improvement strategies
  • Database Knowledge: Familiarity with SQL, Access, and other databases is a plus but not required
  • Education: BA or BS degree required; MA or MS degree preferred (four years of relevant experience may substitute for a BA/BS)
  • Clearance Eligibility: Must be able to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET / SCI security clearance

Ideal Candidate: A mission-focused professional with substantial military background, strategic-level C2 experience, and action officer expertise on a major staff. The candidate should be capable of producing high-quality, executive-level briefs and collaborating effectively across services and nations to support informed decision-making at the highest levels. The ability to conduct independent research, evaluate technical strategies, and work proficiently in Microsoft Office will be critical for success in this role.
