Job description

Special Programs and Student Success Specialist

Position: Special Programs and Student Success Specialist

Location: Student Services

Salary: Teacher Salary Scale

Term of Employment: 12 Months

Reports To: Chief of Student Services

Job Goal: To support Johnston County Public Schools in the continuous improvement of academic outcomes including support services for students in special programs and support activities.

Qualifications and Attributes:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms.
  • Strong technology and organizational skills.
  • Ability to supervise and coordinate a variety of programs, and activities.
  • Must have a North Carolina Professional Educator's license. A North Carolina license in Administration and/or Supervision is preferred.
  • Strong ability to build effective, collaborative partnerships with educators, employers, and community stakeholders, and vendors.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Administration may find appropriate and acceptable.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee recruitment and application processes for JCPS Choice Programs such as: AVID, CTLA, Early College, Fire Science, IB, IDEAL, Innovation and JOCO Teach.
  • Oversee, direct and plan additional co-curricular opportunities for students.
  • Meet with students and parents to discuss Choice programs, pathways and courses.
  • Ensure that all stakeholders, including students, parents, teachers, and administration, have accurate, timely information regarding these programs.
  • Assist Student Services department with the various communication and promotion of special programs, athletics and other extra-curricular activities.
  • Oversee development and operations of student clubs within JCPS.
  • Research, develop, and implement innovative programs that foster student college and life readiness.
  • Partner with government agencies to predict the economic growth/needs for the county, and plan for the future of special program offerings in the school system.
  • Compile and analyze data to prepare reports to local, state, and federal agencies for assigned programs.
  • Meet and consult with advisory groups, economic leaders and governmental agencies, and serve on various external committees to acquire relevant information and support JCPS special programs.
  • Perform other duties and accept responsibilities as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to communicate orally and in writing with parents, staff, and community leaders.
  • Must be able to speak before groups of people with poise, voice control and confidence.
  • Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of grasping, kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion.

Special Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid NC driver's license.
  • Strong interpersonal relationships with business/community leaders, students, staff and parents.
  • Ability to develop and compile a variety of records and reports in digital format.
