Job Inventory information

What is a job inventory?

Job Inventory positions refer to a pool of pre-screened job openings within an organization or agency, often used to fill roles quickly as they become available. Applicants are assessed and placed in an inventory, which hiring managers can draw from when a suitable vacancy arises. This process helps speed up hiring and ensures that qualified candidates are readily accessible. Typically, candidates remain in the job inventory for a set period and may be contacted for interviews as positions match their skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an inventory manager?

To thrive as an Inventory Manager, you need a solid grasp of inventory control, supply chain management, and data analysis, often supported by a relevant degree or experience in logistics or business administration. Familiarity with inventory management software (such as SAP, Oracle, or NetSuite) and advanced Excel skills are typically required. Strong attention to detail, organizational abilities, and effective communication help you stand out in this role. These skills are crucial for maintaining accurate stock levels, minimizing costs, and ensuring efficient operations within a business.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in job inventory management, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in job inventory management often encounter challenges such as balancing stock levels to prevent overstocking or stockouts, managing data accuracy, and coordinating effectively with other departments like purchasing and sales. Addressing these challenges requires strong attention to detail, proficiency with inventory management software, and clear communication with team members. Adopting best practices—such as regular cycle counts, real-time tracking, and ongoing process improvement—can help mitigate these issues and ensure efficient operations.

What do you do in a job inventory?

A job inventory involves reviewing and organizing a list of available jobs within an organization or industry. It typically includes details such as job titles, descriptions, requirements, and responsibilities to help with staffing, planning, or analysis. This process may require skills in data management and familiarity with HR or recruitment tools.

Are you ready to elevate your career with a leading North American aftermarket auto parts company? Mevotech is seeking an experienced Inventory Control Analyst to join our dynamic team.
About Us
Mevotech is a trusted leader in the aftermarket auto parts industry, specializing in driveline, steering, and suspension parts. With over 40 years of experience, we're dedicated to engineering excellence, innovation, and delivering exceptional customer experiences. Our commitment to employee wellness and engagement has earned us recognition as one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies.

Position Overview
Reporting to the Senior Supervisor, Inventory Control, the Inventory Control Analyst is responsible for managing inventory levels, analyzing data, generating reports, and optimizing inventory control systems. This role ensures data accuracy, identifies discrepancies, and implements process improvements to drive operational efficiency and cost reduction. The Analyst will also collaborate with cross functional teams to track inventory transactions accurately and maintain warehouse layout parameters.
Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and maintain accurate inventory records across warehouse and distribution centre locations, ensuring optimal stock levels and supporting overall inventory control performance.
  • Investigate, analyse, and resolve inventory discrepancies, variances, and transaction errors in a timely manner to maintain system accuracy and operational efficiency.
  • Plan and conduct daily cycle counts, reconcile physical inventory to system records, and ensure compliance with company inventory control policies and procedures.
  • Use advanced Excel functions, ERP data, and analytical tools to identify inventory trends, forecast potential issues, and support data-driven decision-making.
  • Prepare clear and accurate reports on inventory movement, turnover, stock accuracy, cycle count results, variances, and root-cause findings for management review.
  • Partner with warehouse operations, supply chain, purchasing, customer service, and cross-functional teams to improve inventory accuracy, prevent stockouts, and reduce excess inventory.
  • Maintain warehouse layout parameters, bin locations, inventory transactions, and item master data to support efficient material flow and accurate reporting.
  • Develop, track, and report on key performance indicators including inventory accuracy, inventory turnover, order accuracy, cycle count completion, and supplier-related performance metrics.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, process standardization, and inventory optimization projects that reduce cost, improve accuracy, and enhance distribution centre performance.
Ideal Qualifications
  • 1–3 years of experience in inventory control, inventory management, warehouse operations, supply chain, distribution, or a related analytical role.
  • Strong understanding of warehouse operations, distribution centre processes, inventory transactions, cycle counting, stock reconciliation, and storage solutions.
  • Experience working with bulk inventory, finished goods, stock movement, receiving, picking, replenishment, and shipping processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas, data analysis, reporting, and large data set management.
  • Experience with ERP, WMS, MRP, or inventory management systems is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of data visualization or business intelligence tools such as Power BI or Tableau is considered an asset.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and root-cause analysis skills with the ability to turn inventory data into actionable recommendations.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work with warehouse associates, supervisors, cross-functional teams, and internal customers.
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, organization, and follow-through in a fast-paced operations environment.
  • Flexibility to work day and evening shifts based on operational needs.
 PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Position follows an onsite work requirement, consisting of five (5) days onsite.
  • Primarily warehouse based with standard working hours; may require additional hours to meet project/work deadlines or address urgent matters.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment, managing multiple tasks and responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Minimal physical demands, primarily involving sitting, using a computer, and other warehouse related activities
