Job description

Senior Medical Science Liaison – Dermatology

Location: Northern New Jersey territory (Bridgewater, New Jersey; Morristown, New Jersey; New Brunswick, New Jersey; Parsippany, New Jersey). The role is based in Northern New Jersey territory.

Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicines is recruiting for a Senior Medical Science Liaison – Dermatology to be based in the Northern New Jersey territory. The Senior MSL is a field‑based scientific and clinical expert on current and future Johnson & Johnson Innovative products. They serve as a strategic scientific partner, integrating internal and external data to inform medical engagement, patient care, and territory strategy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a scientific engagement plan for the territory that aligns with Medical Affairs strategy, prioritized medical objectives, and approved core medical assets.
  • Engage in high‑quality, two‑way scientific exchange with KOLs and HCPs that respectfully challenges current thinking and helps identify trends, unmet needs, and educational gaps.
  • Identify and cultivate strong professional relationships with community and academic HCPs/KOLs in the territory to advance scientific credibility.
  • Utilize insights and MSL tools to develop a strategic approach for customer engagements, proactively uncovering gaps, risks, and opportunities.
  • Leverage AI tools and insights to enhance decision making, streamline processes, and improve efficiency and outcomes across core responsibilities.
  • Identify provider educational needs and address them with tailored responses by framing data in a compelling, scientifically balanced, medically appropriate manner.
  • Deliver relevant scientific data tailored to HCP needs through clear and effective dialogue and presentations that translate complex clinical evidence into meaningful scientific discussion.
  • Collect and submit high‑quality actionable insights aligned with current strategic priorities of the organization.
  • Provide point‑of‑contact support to investigators and internal partners for both company‑sponsored and investigator‑initiated studies.
  • Respond to unsolicited research/clinical inquiries from external stakeholders promptly with scientifically sound, objective, and compliant information.
  • Consistently execute current Medical Affairs strategy and MSL priorities while balancing short‑term execution with longer‑term medical objectives and adapting plans based on evolving data, compliance considerations, and organizational priorities.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders—including MSL field partners, R&D, US and global Medical Affairs teams, clinical operations, and appropriate sales and marketing interactions—to contribute objective, forward‑looking scientific perspectives.
  • Demonstrate strong scientific acumen through self‑study, attending journal clubs, educational seminars, national congresses, and engaging in scientific discussion with peers.
  • Foster a culture of inclusion and belonging, increasing engagement, productivity, and innovation that reflects diverse communities.
  • Understand regulatory and healthcare compliance guidelines, corporate policies on appropriate business conduct and ethical behavior, and Medical Affairs SOPs and guidelines.
  • Develop a performance and development plan with the manager and conduct leadership projects that contribute to medical planning and organizational capabilities.
  • Complete administrative tasks in a timely, accurate, and compliant manner (e.g., expense reports, activity documentation).
Qualifications
  • Doctorate‑level degree or equivalent experience (PharmD, PhD, MD, Advanced Practice Provider, etc.).
  • Post‑graduate experience required for doctoral level candidates, with preference for therapeutic clinical experience.
  • Minimum of 2years of relevant experience, including successful MSL experience.
  • Strong scientific/therapeutic expertise with skills in research, data analysis, clinical expertise, problem‑solving, strategic thinking, and cross‑functional collaboration.
  • Ability to support a territory with up to 70% travel, including in‑territory visits and attendance at internal meetings, external congresses, and related events.
  • Must hold a valid U.S. Driver’s License.
  • Preferred: residency/fellowship experience and familiarity with therapeutic area.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, CoPilot and utilization of computers and remote technologies.
  • Related clinical, research, or pharmaceutical work experience.

Benefits
  • Annual base salary $137,000–$235,750 plus bonus opportunities.
  • Eligible for consolidated retirement plan (401(k)) and long‑term incentive program.
  • Vacation: 120 hours per calendar year; Sick time: 40 hours per calendar year (48 hours for Colorado, 56 hours for Washington).
  • Holiday pay (incl. floating holidays): 13 days per calendar year.
  • Personal and family time: up to 40 hours per calendar year; parental leave: 480 hours within one year.
  • Bereavement leave: 240 hours; caregiver leave: 80 hours; volunteer leave: 32 hours; military spouse time‑off: 80 hours.
