How much do jeol jobs pay per year?
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Jeol position, and why are they important?
To thrive as a JEOL (Electron Microscope Operator or Technician), you need a solid background in materials science, physics, or a related field, often supported by relevant laboratory or technical experience. Familiarity with JEOL instruments, sample preparation protocols, and analytical software such as EDS/SEM systems is typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and effective communication are vital soft skills for this role. Mastering both the technical and interpersonal aspects of the position enables accurate data analysis and smooth collaboration within research or industrial teams.
What does a typical day look like for someone operating a JEOL electron microscope?
A typical day for a JEOL electron microscope operator includes setting up and calibrating the microscope, preparing and loading samples, and capturing high-resolution images or performing elemental analyses. Operators frequently collaborate with researchers or engineers to discuss sample requirements and interpret results, ensuring the data collected meets project objectives. Routine maintenance, troubleshooting instrument issues, and documenting procedures or findings are also key responsibilities. Working in either industrial or academic laboratory environments, this role often requires balancing multiple projects and adapting to new research questions, making each day varied and engaging.

-
Provide support for the ACC NMR Spectroscopy laboratory, which includes the operation of four (4) 400 MHz spectrometers and one (1) 600 MHz spectrometer 1
-
Perform general maintenance and upkeep of equipment and instrumentation.
-
Perform instrument quality control to ensure proper function.
-
Collect and review data; analyze and interpret data and results.
-
Conduct and write literature reviews for current and future projects.
-
Work with staff in identity, purity and stability analysis.
-
Prepare samples of various modalities prior to NMR analysis
-
Conduct various 1D, 2D, nD, and VT NMR experiments, as well as perform spectral analysis and interpretation for structure verification, conformational analysis, chromatographic and isotopic purity analysis, and impurity identification 2
-
Perform weekly liquid nitrogen fills and quarterly helium fills of the NMR magnets
-
Utilize in-house compound tracking system; enter and review data.
-
Write papers and abstracts detailing research efforts and results for publication in peer-reviewed journals. Prepare summaries, reports and presentations based on findings
-
Perform both routine and specialized laboratory procedures of moderate to high complexity.
