Job description

The Harry & Rose Samson Family JCC is seeking an energetic, organized, and skilled Aquatics Coordinator to join our Aquatics Team!

This is a full-time position with a typical schedule of Tuesday through Saturday. Candidates should have the ability to work a varied schedule to support operational needs, including frequent extended workdays, as well as weekends and holidays as required.

In this role, you will play a key part in supporting overall pool operations and assisting the Assistant Director with the coordination and oversight of our Private Swim program. You will blend administrative expertise with hands-on aquatics instruction, coaching, and lifeguarding to ensure high-quality program delivery and an outstanding participant experience.

Key ResponsibilitiesProgram Leadership & Operations
  • Private Swim Support: Assist the Assistant Director with private swim coordination, instructor support, family communication, scheduling, lesson package management, and record-keeping.

  • Direct Aquatics Service: Provide 30–35 hours per week of direct service, including group and private swim instruction, lifeguarding, swim team coaching, and teaching American Red Cross courses.

  • Skill Evaluations: Conduct swim evaluations and place swimmers in appropriate skill levels.

  • Staff Development: Assist the Assistant Aquatics Director with recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and training swim instructors and lifeguards, as well as conducting ongoing in-services.

Administrative & Customer Service
  • Enrollments & Rosters: Process registrations, transfers, and account adjustments using Traction Rec. Maintain swim lesson rosters, report cards, and track session completion data.

  • Communication: Respond promptly and welcomingly to participant inquiries via phone, email, and in person.

  • Check-In Support: Assist with check-in during group swim lessons as needed.

Additional Duties
  • Serve as Manager on Duty (MOD) as assigned.

  • Support JCC special events and actively practice our organization’s Positive Rules of Communication.

Qualifications & RequirementsEducation & Experience
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred (or equivalent combination of education and experience).

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of swim instruction experience required.

  • Certifications Required: Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding (including Deep Water) with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid (or ability to obtain within 90 days).

  • Certifications Preferred: American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) and Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certifications.

Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to teach the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim curriculum to participants aged 6 months to 14 years, with adaptive techniques for private lessons.

  • Knowledge of (or ability to learn) Adaptive Aquatics programming and competitive swim coaching.

  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Tech-savvy: Proficient with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and software like Traction Rec.

  • Ability to give and receive feedback professionally in a collaborative environment.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements
  • Regularly works in both a pool and office environment.

  • Must be able to stand, walk, swim, and lift up to 25 lbs frequently (and up to 50 lbs occasionally).

  • Must be comfortable in dynamic pool environments with occasional loud noise levels.
