Job description

Modern Technology Solutions, Inc (MTSI) is currently looking for a DevSecOps Intern to join our team Remotely this Summer.
Responsibilities:
The DevSecOps Intern will support the Software Development Factory (SDF) team on current projects that involve modern, secure software engineering practices. The intern will be introduced to the full Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) within a highly automated, compliance-driven DevSecOps environment. The intern will gain hands-on exposure to the following technologies and practices used within the SDF:
• GitLab (SCM, CI/CD, and GitLab Duo AI)
• JIRA and Confluence for Agile planning and documentation
• Sonatype for secure software supply chain management
• Artifactory/Nexus and container registries for dependency and artifact management
• SonarQube Developer Edition for static code quality and security scanning
• Trivy and container scanning workflows for vulnerability detection
• Compliance automation aligned with NIST 800-53, CMMC, and IL4/IL5 requirements
The intern will assist in areas such as pipeline configuration, compliance reporting, vulnerability triage, documentation of processes, and supporting software engineers in building and securing applications. The role offers structured training and mentorship, with the expectation that the intern will learn and contribute to both operational and developmental improvements within the SDF environment.
Qualifications:
• Working toward a BS or MS degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Cybersecurity, or related technical discipline
• Familiarity with one or more programming languages such as Python, Java, C++, or JavaScript
• Strong academic performance in software development or systems engineering coursework
• Understanding of the fundamentals of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)
• Demonstrated interest in secure software engineering, DevSecOps, or cloud infrastructure
• Comfortable learning new technologies and supporting multiple concurrent projects in a dynamic environment
• Interest in modern software engineering practices such as Agile, CI/CD, and test automation
• US Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a US government clearance is required.
Desired Skills:
• Exposure to version control systems such as Git (GitLab, GitHub, Bitbucket, etc.)
• Basic understanding of containers and Docker
• Strong communication skills for interacting with engineers, analysts, and stakeholders
