Sr. Backend / API Engineer (Java / Python)

Location: Chandler, AZ — 100% Onsite at client site

Engagement: Long-term contract | W2 or C2C

Employer: Trilogy NextGen

Role Summary

Trilogy NextGen is hiring Senior Backend / API Engineers for our enterprise client in Chandler, AZ. You''ll design and build production-grade microservices and APIs in Java and Python, deploy them to a Kubernetes-based cloud platform, and partner with Front-End and Platform teams to ship high-impact features.

Key Responsibilities

•     Design, build, and operate microservices and REST APIs in Java (Spring Boot) and Python (FastAPI/Flask).

•     Make architecture decisions on data modeling, service boundaries, and integration patterns.

•     Build for scale, reliability, and observability — metrics, logs, distributed tracing.

•     Partner with DevOps to deploy services on Kubernetes via CI/CD pipelines.

•     Write unit, integration, and contract tests; participate in production support and on-call rotations as needed.

•     Mentor mid-level engineers through code reviews and design sessions.

Required Qualifications

•     8+ years of backend / API engineering experience.

•     Strong production experience in BOTH Java (Spring Boot) AND Python (FastAPI, Flask, or Django).

•     Deep expertise in REST API design, microservices, and event-driven architecture (Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar).

•     Solid SQL skills and experience with relational and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, Oracle, MongoDB, DynamoDB).

•     Hands-on experience deploying services to Kubernetes on AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.

•     Strong fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, concurrency, and system design.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

•     Experience with gRPC, GraphQL, or schema-first API design.

•     Familiarity with Terraform, Helm, and modern observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry).

•     Background in regulated industries (financial services, healthcare, supply chain).

Compensation

Rate is negotiable based on experience. We are open to W2 and C2C arrangements.
