Java Microservices Architect information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Java Microservices Architect, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Java Microservices Architect, you need expertise in Java programming, microservices design patterns, system integration, and a solid understanding of software architecture principles, often supported by a degree in computer science or related fields. Familiarity with tools like Spring Boot, Docker, Kubernetes, RESTful APIs, and cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure, along with relevant certifications, is typically required. Outstanding problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills help in guiding development teams and translating business needs into scalable solutions. These skills are crucial for delivering robust, efficient, and maintainable architectures that support evolving business requirements.

How does a Java Microservices Architect typically collaborate with development and operations teams during a project lifecycle?

A Java Microservices Architect plays a central role in bridging development and operations teams throughout a project's lifecycle. They work closely with developers to design scalable, modular services and establish best coding practices, while also partnering with DevOps engineers to ensure smooth deployment, monitoring, and maintenance. Regular meetings, architecture reviews, and hands-on guidance are common, as architects often mentor team members and help troubleshoot complex integration issues. This collaborative approach helps ensure system reliability, performance, and alignment with business goals.

What does a Java Microservices Architect do?

A Java Microservices Architect is responsible for designing and overseeing the implementation of microservices-based architectures using the Java programming language. They break down complex applications into independent, modular services that can be developed, deployed, and scaled individually. Their role includes selecting appropriate frameworks, ensuring system reliability, and defining integration patterns between services. Additionally, they collaborate with development teams to enforce best practices, optimize performance, and ensure security across the microservices ecosystem.

What is the difference between Java Microservices Architect vs Java Backend Developer?

TENAX Technologies, LLC is seeking experienced Full Stack Java Developers to support mission-critical Information Technology services for the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI). These are full-time, onsite positions requiring an active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.

Selected candidates will design, develop, deploy, and sustain secure, scalable Java-based enterprise applications supporting national security missions within a DevSecOps-driven environment. This role is ideal for developers with strong expertise in Java enterprise application development, modern front-end frameworks, API integration, and secure software delivery within classified DoD environments.

Location

This position is an on-site job with the work location in Suitland, MD. This position does not allow for remote or hybrid work.

Position Overview

The Full Stack Java Developer will be responsible for the full software development lifecycle of mission applications, with a primary focus on Java-based back-end development integrated with modern front-end technologies and enterprise databases. Responsibilities include designing secure application architectures, developing RESTful services and APIs, building responsive user interfaces, integrating with mission systems, and supporting deployment pipelines in secure environments.

This position emphasizes Java full stack development, secure coding, CI/CD automation, and compliance with DoD cybersecurity requirements. Developers will work closely with system engineers, cybersecurity teams, database administrators, and mission stakeholders to deliver resilient, high-performing solutions that support critical intelligence operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain full stack enterprise applications with a primary focus on Java/J2EE development
  • Develop robust back-end services using Java, Spring Boot, Spring Framework, Hibernate/JPA, and RESTful API architectures
  • Build and enhance front-end interfaces using JavaScript, TypeScript, and modern frameworks such as Angular, React, or similar technologies
  • Develop and optimize relational database solutions using Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and SQL query tuning
  • Design and implement microservices-based architectures and secure API integrations across enterprise platforms
  • Support DevSecOps pipelines including automated builds, testing, code quality validation, vulnerability scanning, and deployments
  • Implement secure coding practices aligned with DoD cybersecurity policies, RMF requirements, and vulnerability remediation processes
  • Integrate applications with cloud services, enterprise platforms, and mission-critical intelligence data sources
  • Troubleshoot application defects, performance bottlenecks, and production issues across front-end and back-end systems
  • Participate in Agile development activities including sprint planning, code reviews, backlog refinement, and release planning
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation including architecture diagrams, API documentation, deployment guides, and configuration management artifacts

Required Qualifications

  • Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility
  • DoD IAT Level II certification or higher (e.g., Security+ CE, CASP+, or equivalent)
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent professional experience)
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in full stack software development with strong emphasis on Java application development
  • Strong proficiency in:
    • Java, J2EE, Spring Boot, Spring Framework
    • RESTful web services and API development
    • Front-end development using JavaScript, TypeScript, Angular, or React
    • SQL development using Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar platforms
  • Experience working in a DevSecOps environment, including CI/CD pipeline implementation and sustainment
  • Familiarity with source control and configuration management tools such as Git, GitLab, or GitHub
  • Experience with secure coding standards, application security, and vulnerability remediation

Desired Qualifications
