Job description

This is an exciting opportunity to join a leading global organization that is at the forefront of technological innovation, impacting millions of users worldwide. You’ll be part of a team that is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible, contributing to systems that define the future of technology.

We are seeking a versatile Generalist Software Engineer for a high-velocity, 6-month project supporting our machine learning serving ecosystem. This is not a traditional infrastructure or low-level systems role. Instead, it is a 50/50 hybrid of software development and optimization focused on moving microservices from a legacy stack to a next-generation platform.

Your primary mission is to act as a “T-shaped” developer who can jump into ambiguous technical situations, understand the code, safely execute migrations, and write scripts/documentation to automate yourself out of manual toil.

Responsibilities
  • Execute System Migrations: Support the systematic migration of clients and internal pipelines from a legacy stack to a next-generation serving stack while keeping high-load live services running smoothly.

  • Drive Automation & Reduce Toil: Identify repetitive, manual operational tasks in the migration workflow and write code/scripts to automate them.

  • Dynamic Troubleshooting: Triage incoming operational tickets and resolve novel bugs/issues on live-serving architectures using an analytical engineering mindset.

  • Technical Documentation: Author clear runbooks and technical documentation detailing deployment dependencies so that future processes are highly repeatable.

  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Coordinate directly with internal engineering clients and reliability teammates to outline implementation game plans and manage risks.

What We Are Looking For
  • The Ultimate Generalist: Language-agnostic developer who is highly adaptable and comfortable reading/understanding various codebases (e.g., Python, Java, Go, TypeScript).

  • Exceptional Communicators: Ability to explain complex technical issues dynamically across different depths—whether diving deep with a peer or keeping it high-level for stakeholders.

  • Navigators of Ambiguity: High curiosity and the professional courage to experiment, ask sharp questions, and troubleshoot environments that lack a pre-defined playbook.

  • Ecosystem Familiarity: Prior experience navigating massive, complex internal microservice frameworks and proprietary tooling (experience with large-scale cloud platforms or Google internal systems is a massive plus).

  • Track Record over Tenure: We care about your capability and history of effective project delivery, not raw years of experience; junior-to-mid level developers with strong autonomy are highly encouraged to apply.

What is NOT Required
  • Deep knowledge of machine learning model internals or neural networks.

  • A Computer Science degree or background in a specific niche industry.

  • Low-level Linux internals or networking hardware expertise.

Logistics
  • Duration: 6-month temporary contract.

  • Location: In-person collaboration in the Pittsburgh, PA area
