Job description

Clearance Required: TS/SCI with the ability to obtain & maintain a Polygraph
Location: Herndon, VA | On-Site Full-Time
Contract: Long-term federal GEOINT program — work assured through at least 2030 Our client is seeking a Java-focused Software Engineer to join a Scrum team sustaining and evolving a mission-critical enterprise application — the central hub through which U.S. military and intelligence community users submit, adjudicate, search, and retrieve geospatial intelligence data. You will own backend Java development on a large-scale platform that coordinates GEOINT collection, dissemination, and production requirements across a vast network of commercial and national suppliers.
This is a stable, long-term program operating under DevSecOps and Agile methodologies, with operational stability as its top mandate. A great fit for a cleared Java engineer who wants meaningful mission work and long-term staying power on contract. Responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
• Develop, modify, troubleshoot, and debug Java-based backend services supporting an enterprise-scale GEOINT data management platform.
• Participate in Agile Scrum ceremonies — sprint planning, standups, backlog grooming, and retrospectives — within a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) environment.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipeline activities using tools such as Docker, Git, and Jenkins as part of an established DevSecOps delivery process.
• Troubleshoot and resolve software defects across Linux and Windows environments, maintaining platform uptime and operational reliability.
• Write and maintain technical documentation: program intent, input/output specifications, and standards compliance artifacts.
• Evaluate, integrate, and support COTS and open-source components to extend platform capabilities as mission requirements evolve.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teammates, including subcontractors and geographically dispersed engineers, to deliver sprint commitments. Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Hands-on Java development experience — must be able to independently develop, modify, and troubleshoot Java code.
• Experience operating in Linux and/or Windows environments.
• Active TS/SCI clearance required at time of start.
• U.S. Citizenship required; must meet government eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Preferred Qualifications:
• Database and SQL development experience: Oracle DBMS, PostgreSQL, PL-SQL, MongoDB, or MySQL RDS.
• RESTful API development and service integration experience in a microservices or SOA architecture.
• Integration pipeline experience with tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins, Kafka, Git, or JIRA.
• SAFe Agile development experience; familiarity with VersionOne or Jira for sprint and backlog management.
• Big data and search technologies: Elasticsearch, Kinetica, or data ingest and analytics tooling.
• Cloud infrastructure experience in AWS or equivalent, cleared cloud environments.
• Python scripting experience for automation or data processing tasks.
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative, team-oriented working style. Clearance Requirements:
• Active TS/SCI clearance with the ability to obtain & maintain a Polygraph Location:
• Herndon, VA
• On-site full-time at a designated secure facility. No remote option available. Physical Requirements:
This position requires the ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods, operate standard office equipment, including a computer, keyboard, and telephone, and occasionally move about the work environment. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
