The Financial Planning team within Wealth and Advisor Solutions Technology builds modern experiences and platforms that help clients translate their financial goals into meaningful actions.

As a Manager, Software Development & Engineering, you will help deliver resilient, high-quality software solutions that support Schwab’s client and advisor planning experiences. You will partner closely with product owners, architects, and engineering teams to design, build, test, deploy, and support production-ready microservices in an Agile environment. Success in this role requires strong software development fundamentals, sound technical judgment, and a quality-first mindset as you solve complex engineering challenges, improve reliability, and support delivery outcomes that directly impact Schwab clients.

This role also offers the opportunity to influence engineering practices across the team by contributing to code quality, test automation, deployment readiness, production support, and technical coaching. You will help identify risks early, strengthen automation and validation practices, and collaborate with others to continuously improve how the team delivers scalable, maintainable, and dependable technology solutions.

What you have

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or related field
  • 6+ years of hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot application development and delivery
  • 3+ years of experience designing and implementing automated testing solutions, including API, integration, and end-to-end testing in modern CI/CD environments
  • Professional experience developing software solutions that align with design principles, business objectives, and production support expectations
  • Professional experience participating in engineering practices such as code reviews, service discovery, environment strategy, and release-readiness activities
  • Professional experience with relational databases
  • Professional experience with RESTful API development
  • Professional experience with source code repository tools, such as GitHub
  • Professional experience using automation tools such as Maven or Gradle
  • Ability to provide production support, including on-call support when necessary
  • Ability to analyze technical challenges, apply sound judgment, and deliver effective solutions
  • Ability to collaborate effectively by listening actively, communicating clearly, and incorporating feedback

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience in the financial services industry
  • Experience implementing quality gates within CI/CD pipelines and supporting continuous delivery practices
  • Experience building and testing microservices in public or private cloud infrastructure
  • Familiarity with AI-enabled development tools or automation to improve engineering productivity
  • Ability to mentor or coach junior team members by sharing technical knowledge, modeling strong engineering practices, and supporting continuous learning
  • Openness to learning new tools, adapting to changing priorities, and working collaboratively in a team-focused environment
