Job description

Mechanical Test Engineer (Co-op)

As a Mechanical Test Engineer at Zaber, you will develop innovative test systems for analyzing the performance of our precision motion control products. This is a good opportunity to learn mechanical design, instrumentation, and programming in the context of helping to build and sell better products.

As a collaborative member of our team, you will perform tests on a variety of electromechanical devices, which involve setting up and running test equipment, writing automated test scripts, and analyzing results. Youโ€™ll gain experience working with a wide range of equipment, by running everything from nanometer scale accuracy on our laser interferometer to half-ton thrust in our warehouse space.

You will work on projects that will help to expand our measurement capabilities as we push into industrial markets and build more complex multi-axis systems. While prototyping components for these projects, you'll have full access to our well-equipped machine shop, which includes a waterjet, laser cutter, lathes, mills (both manual and CNC), and numerous other tools.

Zaber Technologies is a fast growing employee-owned motion control company that prides itself on promoting the growth of its employees. Internally, Zaber fosters a safe and respectful work environment and recognizes that the companyโ€™s growth has been achieved by empowering employees to make decisions, and providing flexibility to allow them to work in the way that they find most productive.

As a Mechanical Test Engineer, you will:
  • Gain a fundamental understanding of motion control systems through the process of diagnosing problems with production and prototype devices.
  • Investigate sources of error in test systems and implement strategies to mitigate or eliminate them.
  • Design, improve, and manufacture new test jigs when necessary.
  • Write Python scripts to automate our tests and use data analysis tools to convey important conclusions.
  • Create test plans, run tests, analyze results, write reports, and collaborate with designers/developers to ensure the desired information is captured.
What we're looking for:
  • Keen interest for digging deep into problems and optimizing processes.
  • Hands-on experience or mechanical aptitude, preferably with precision systems; be sure to tell us about any past work with mechanical systems.
  • Experience with Python, object oriented programming, and data analysis.
  • A degree in mechanical, mechatronics engineering, or similar.
  • Currently enrolled in a degree or diploma program.
Mechanical Test Engineer Wage:
  • Wage: $24 - $28/hour depending on experience.
  • Closing Date: July 19, 2026.
  • Start Date: September 2026.
  • Length of position: 8 months preferred, 4 or 12 months optional.
  • Team: Test Engineering Team
