Job description

Voted Top Workplaces in San Diego in 2021, we live and work by our core values of integrity, collaboration, innovation, respect, and service. Corelation cares about each employee, which is exemplified through its competitive pay and outstanding benefits package. Corelation has a generous 401K retirement plan, an extensive paid time off policy, and one of the best company cultures out there! When you join the Corelation Team, you are embarking on a journey of professional and personal development.
What We Are Looking For
We are seeking a highly skilled DevOps Developer II with strong scripting and system-administration experience to support the automation and lifecycle management of Corelation's patching, upgrade, and system-maintenance tools. This position focuses on designing, building, and maintaining scripts and automated processes used by internal teams-and by clients-to upgrade, patch, and maintain RHEL-based environments and related third-party software components. The DevOps Developer II works collaboratively across Development, Hardware Services, and Client Support teams to build reliable and efficient processes for patching, upgrades, and system transitions (including RHEL, Db2, Java, Tomcat, Jaspersoft, OpenSSH/OpenSSL, and other dependencies). While not solely responsible for the patch lifecycle, this role is a key contributor in evaluating vendor updates, developing automation for internal and client use, and maintaining Corelation's internal test systems. The developer may also contribute to new projects requiring custom scripts or automation solutions to improve system monitoring, deployment, or operational efficiency. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on problem-solving, automation, and developing tools that improve reliability, security, and consistency across client and internal environments. If you are a dedicated and technically proficient individual with a passion for security updates, patch automation, and process development, we encourage you to apply for this exciting opportunity.
Requirements
• Work with Senior Systems Engineers to develop shell scripts to create and/or modify scripts for patches for clients.
• Monitor software patch releases and security bulletins to identify vulnerabilities and required patches for internal and external software.
• Download, evaluate, test, and package partner upgrade and installation patches for clients. Collaborate with the development team to test patches and software updates and ensure they are compatible with existing systems.
• Develop and maintain documentation related to patch and release management processes, procedures, and policies.
• Maintain historical records by documenting patch and release development and revisions.
• Work with clients to ensure patching schedules are established and followed.
• Provide technical support and guidance to clients on patch management related issues.
• Evaluate and recommend process improvements to the software management and release cycle
• Assist in the development of CI/CD process improvements.
Why You Are The Perfect Fit
Experience
Automation & Script Development
• Design, develop, and maintain shell scripts (bash, ksh, sh) to automate patching, upgrades, deployments, and maintenance operations.
• Build and test automation for OS and third-party software upgrades (AIX, RHEL, Db2, Java, Tomcat, Jaspersoft, OpenSSH/OpenSSL, etc.).
• Package vendor software updates into Corelation-approved, tested patch bundles for internal and client use.
• Develop and validate upgrade workflows for major platform transitions (e.g., RHEL 8?9) using automated and semi-automated approaches.
• Contribute to new initiatives that require scripting and process automation for internal or client-facing solutions.
Patch, Upgrade, and Vulnerability Support
• Track vendor roadmaps and security advisories for RHEL, Db2, Java, Tomcat, OpenSSH/OpenSSL, and related components.
• Evaluate, test, and document updates as part of the coordinated patch and upgrade process.
• Assist with vulnerability review and patch-prioritization activities.
System Administration & Environment Support
• Support and maintain Corelation's internal development and testing environments used for patch and upgrade validation.
• Perform system-level tasks to test compatibility, evaluate performance, and confirm process reliability.
• Primarily support RHEL-based systems, with a working knowledge of AIX during the migration period.
Collaboration & Client Enablement
• Work closely with Hardware Services, QA, Development, and Client Services to ensure automation tools meet operational needs.
• Provide occasional support to clients when troubleshooting patching or upgrade-automation issues.
• Gather internal and client feedback to improve automation, reliability, and usability.
Documentation & Procedures
• Develop and maintain clear, detailed procedures for patching, upgrade, and deployment automation.
• Document script usage, configuration, testing results, and revision history.
• Maintain version control and traceability for all developed scripts and supporting assets.
Additional Duties
• Participate in new projects that involve system upgrades, automation development, or environment-lifecycle improvements.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Experience
• 3 + years of experience in system administration, DevOps automation, or patch-and-upgrade management.
• Proficiency in bash, ksh, and sh scripting with experience developing complex, reusable automation scripts.
• Strong understanding of RHEL administration and patching workflows; familiarity with AIX beneficial.
• Experience with DNF package management and related Linux update mechanisms.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and test upgrade processes for major software components (Db2, Java, Tomcat, Jaspersoft, OpenSSH/OpenSSL, etc.).
• Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to diagnose system- and script-related issues.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities concurrently.
Preferred Experience
• Experience with major OS upgrade automation (e.g., RHEL 8?9).
• Familiarity with patch-management tools for RHEL and AIX.
• Experience supporting internal Dev/Test environments.
• Understanding of IT security and vulnerability-management practices.
• Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams on deployment or upgrade-automation projects.
