Job description

The Chicago office of Barnes & Thornburg LLP is seeking a Japanese-speaking Immigration Paralegal to support our growing Immigration and Global Mobility Services practice. This role is ideal for a paralegal interested in handling business immigration matters and providing day-to-day case support, with a particular focus on serving Japanese-speaking clients.
Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrate expertise in procedural and processing requirements for various business non-immigrant and immigrant visa petitions with USCSI and consular applications (DS160), including but not limited to E1/E2, L1A/L1B and L Blanket, H, L, TN, O,P , PERM, I-140, AOS, etc.
  • Communicate effectively in Japanese and English with clients, beneficiaries, attorneys, and other stakeholders regarding case documents, case status, and procedural requirements
  • Independently analyze case documents and prepare business immigration applications for attorney review and submission
  • Take ownership of your case docket, ensuring timely communication with clients and attorneys
  • Assist with review of Japanese-language documents and communications, as needed
  • Stay up to date with immigration developments and share information with the team
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent training, education, and experience
  • Fluency in Japanese and English, with strong written and verbal communication skills in both languages
  • Previous experience in preparing business immigration applications with USCSI and Consular processing, including demonstrated understanding of visa petitions such as E1/E2, L1A/L1B, L Blanket, H, L, TN, OP, PERM, I-140, AOS, etc.
  • Experience with other types of immigration matters is a plus
  • Excellent multitasking and time management skills
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational abilities
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines while handling a high volume of cases
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with diverse professionals.
