Job description

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Janitorial Staff is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, sanitation, and general upkeep of the YMCA facility and surrounding grounds. Ensures a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for members, guests, and staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Complete all tasks assigned on daily cleaning and maintenance schedules.
  • Maintain cleanliness of facility areas including:
    • Wet and dry mopping, dusting, vacuuming, and window washing.
    • Locker room and restroom cleaning (toilets, urinals, showers, sinks).
    • Trash collection and removal.
    • Seasonal maintenance tasks (e.g., lawn care, snow shoveling/plowing).
  • Operate cleaning and maintenance equipment (both motorized and non-motorized).
  • Replenish supplies (soap, paper products, etc.).
  • Set up and break down furniture and equipment for events.
  • Report and/or perform repairs as directed.
  • Ensure facility and grounds are secured during and at end of shift.
  • Immediately report safety hazards or incidents to Property Director.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Property Director or Executive Director.
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Demonstrated reliability and ability to follow instructions and work independently.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire).
