Position Summary

The Senior Director of Operations for Jackson Memorial Hospital provides strategic and operational leadership over JMH campus, to include inpatient and outpatient rehab services across Jackson Memorial Hospital’s delivery network. This role is accountable for optimizing operational performance in building services, environmental services (EVS), food and nutrition, plant operations, and transportation functions in support of patient care. A critical leader, the Senior Director drives process improvement, staff engagement, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure that operations are efficient, compliant, and aligned with institutional goals.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Planning and Performance Improvement: Identify opportunities for systems-level improvements across designated services, using data-driven evaluations to inform resource allocation, service enhancement, and workflow redesign. Define and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), ensuring continuous improvement in cost-effectiveness, regulatory readiness, and customer experience. Lead the execution of strategic initiatives that align operations with broader organizational goals and evolving care models.

Team Development and Operational Accountability: Supervise operational leadership and frontline teams across departments; provide coaching, performance evaluation, and opportunities for career development. Promote a culture of engagement, compliance, accountability, and service excellence among employees. Lead recruitment and retention efforts, including the design and execution of employee engagement strategies.

Regulatory Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure facility readiness and operations in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations including Joint Commission, AHCA, OSHA, and infection control standards. Maintain documentation, audit response protocols, and emergency preparedness plans to support ongoing accreditation and inspection readiness.

Communication and Stakeholder Coordination: Act as a liaison between operations and other internal departments including Facilities, Finance, Human Resources, and Patient Experience to align goals and resolve issues. Facilitate transparent communication with executive leadership on operational risks, achievements, and improvement priorities.

Financial Stewardship: Develop and manage annual capital and operating budgets for non-clinical services within the service areas. Monitor productivity, cost performance, and asset utilization to support fiscal responsibility and long-term sustainability.

Other Responsibilities: Represent JMH Operations in strategic planning meetings, leadership forums, and system-wide improvement efforts. Perform other responsibilities as assigned to support growth and operational excellence.

Qualifications
  • Generally requires 7 to 10 years of related experience.
  • Leadership experience is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in related field is required.
  • Master's degree is strongly preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in an academic medical center or public healthcare system.
Core Competencies
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Skill in monitoring/assessing the performance to make improvements or take corrective action. Skill in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
