IV Therapy RNs often work closely with various departments, such as pharmacy, oncology, and surgery, to ensure timely and effective administration of intravenous treatments. A common challenge involves managing scheduling conflicts and communication gaps, especially when urgent IV access or medication adjustments are needed. Success in this role requires strong organizational skills, clear communication, and the ability to advocate for patients' needs while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. Proactively building relationships with colleagues in other departments can help streamline workflows and improve patient outcomes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an IV Therapy RN?

To thrive as an IV Therapy RN, you need expertise in intravenous therapy techniques, patient assessment, and a valid RN license, often complemented by IV certification. Familiarity with infusion pumps, venipuncture equipment, and electronic health records is critical for safe and efficient practice.
