IV Certification LVNs have specialized training in administering IV therapy, making them suitable for roles requiring advanced IV skills. LPNs are licensed practical nurses with broader nursing responsibilities, often including basic IV administration. The main difference lies in the additional IV certification for LVNs, which enhances their scope in IV-related tasks.

What can LPN do with IV certification?

An LPN with IV certification can administer IV fluids, medications, and electrolytes under supervision, expanding their scope of practice. This certification allows LPNs to perform basic IV therapy tasks, often in long-term care, clinics, or hospital settings, enhancing patient care capabilities.

Can LVNs do IV infusions?

Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) or Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) are often trained to perform IV infusions as part of their scope of practice, depending on state regulations and facility policies. They typically require specific certification or training in IV therapy and must work under the supervision of a registered nurse or physician.

Can LPNs be on the IV team?

Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) can be part of the IV team if they have received proper IV therapy training and certification, which varies by state and facility. In many healthcare settings, LPNs are permitted to initiate and maintain IV lines under supervision, but scope of practice regulations determine their specific roles. Certification in IV therapy is often required to perform these tasks legally and safely.

What can LPNs do with IVs NCLEX?

LPNs with IV certification can administer IV fluids and medications, perform IV therapy, and monitor IV sites under supervision. Their scope of practice varies by state, but generally includes starting and maintaining IV lines and assessing patient responses within their authorized duties.
