Beginning Wednesday, August 19, 2026, Riviera Utilities will begin taking applications to fill a job vacancy for IT Computer Support Technician I - Help Desk I. We are considering applicants with qualifications in the following range, salary commensurate with education and experience.


QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience


High school diploma or equivalent diploma (GED) and an Associate’s Degree in a computer-related field OR two (2) years of experience successfully resolving technical issues with common business software applications.


Licenses or Certifications
Microsoft, Cisco, or CompTIA Certifications helpful but not required.


Special Requirements
Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Driver’s License within 60 days of employment.

IT COMPUTER SUPPORT TECHNICIAN I - HELP DESK I

JOB SUMMARY

The IT Support Technician I serves as a first point of contact for technology support and provides front-line technical assistance to employees across the organization. The position diagnoses, troubleshoots, and resolves common hardware, software, operating system, network connectivity, peripheral, account-access, and application issues through remote and in-person support. Provides technical guidance and instruction to users with varying levels of technical knowledge and supports employee onboarding, cybersecurity practices, and the effective use of organizational technology resources.

The position documents and manages support requests through the helpdesk system, identifies and escalates complex infrastructure, application, or cybersecurity issues to appropriate IT personnel. Work is performed in accordance with established IT policies, procedures, and security standards under the direction and supervision of the IT Helpdesk Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Provides timely, professional IT support across departments and locations via helpdesk application, phone, or email, and in-person assistance. Troubleshoots and resolves hardware, software, connectivity, and other technical issues while delivering excellent customer service.
  • Documents, tracks, prioritizes, and resolves support requests in the helpdesk system; escalates issues while delivering excellent customer service.
  • Installs, configures, maintains, and troubleshoots software, peripheral devices on computers for end users.
  • Assists and educates users with program functions.
  • Performs operating system, application updates and upgrades to software in accordance with established IT procedures.
  • Maintains accurate IT-supported inventory assets and environments using diagrams and other written materials.
  • Answers user inquiries regarding computer software or hardware operations.
  • Troubleshoots computers, servers, and peripheral devices (printers, scanners, internet applications) to resolve user problems and improve efficiency of operations.
  • Reads technical manuals, confers with users, or conducts computer diagnostics to investigate and resolve problems or to provide technical assistance and support.
  • Performs planned support and maintenance activities during scheduled times.
  • Stays current on new technologies, concepts, and processes as needed or requested by Management through reading journals, articles, reports and attending training.
  • Arranges for warranty repair of equipment from manufacturers.

  • Assists other departments as assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as required/assigned.

  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and best practices, including password security, phishing awareness, access control, data protection, and endpoint security.
  • Knowledge of hardware and software functions and networking.
  • Knowledge of operational and procedural aspects of computer systems, hardware, software, and peripheral equipment.
  • Knowledge of helpdesk/ticketing systems and practices for documenting, tracking, prioritizing, escalating, and resolving technical support requests.
  • Skill in technical troubleshooting problems with computer systems, hardware, software, and peripheral equipment.
  • Ability to use inductive and deductive reasoning and logic to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to a problem.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize urgent issues; change easily and frequently from one activity to another.
  • Ability to think creatively and innovatively to solve user problems and troubleshoot issues.
  • Ability to take ownership of assigned support requests and follow through resolution, escalation, and documentation.
  • Ability to show careful attention to responsibilities and acceptance and execution of all work assignments.
  • Ability to maintain and complete minor repairs of peripherals including printers, fax machines, office scanners, and computers.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, policies, manuals, instructions, and technical procedures.
  • Ability to actively listen, give full attention to what other people are saying, take time to understand the points being made, ask questions as appropriate, and not interrupt at inappropriate times.
  • Ability to establish and maintain interpersonal relationships with a wide variety of individuals.
  • Ability to have regular and predictable work attendance.
