Job Description: IT Support Specialist
DeKalb Preparatory Academy

DeKalb Preparatory Academy, a K-8 charter school located in DeKalb County, Georgia, serving approximately 585 students and 100 staff members, is seeking a dedicated and skilled IT Support Specialist. This individual will play a vital role in supporting the daily technology needs of our students, teachers, and staff, while ensuring the smooth operation of our IT infrastructure.

Position Summary

The IT Support Specialist will provide technical support and troubleshooting for hardware, software, network systems, and educational technology tools. The specialist will assist in maintaining, upgrading, and securing the school’s IT environment, while providing direct support to students and staff to ensure their technology needs are met effectively and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for desktops, laptops, Chromebooks, printers, smartboards, and other classroom technology.
  • Support distribution, setup, and maintenance of student and staff devices.
  • Assist with device inventory management, barcoding, and tracking of technology assets.
  • Install, configure, and update software and applications on school devices.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software issues for staff and students in a timely manner.
  • Maintain and monitor the school’s network, Wi-Fi access points, and connectivity in coordination with vendors.
  • Assist with security management including account setups, password resets, and endpoint protection.
  • Provide training and support for staff in the use of educational technology tools and platforms.
  • Collaborate with the IT Manager and external vendors to ensure system reliability and upgrades.
  • Document support requests, resolutions, and maintain accurate records of IT assets.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • 1–3 years of IT support experience, preferably in a school or educational environment.
  • Familiarity with Windows, macOS, and ChromeOS environments.
  • Basic knowledge of networking, Wi-Fi troubleshooting, and device management.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work independently or as part of a team.
  • Commitment to supporting teachers, staff, and students in achieving their academic goals.

Work Schedule

  • Monday – Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM (please adjust to the scheduled work hours for this position).
  • Flexibility is required. There may be times when after-hours work is necessary (e.g., emergencies, special projects, or urgent repairs) to ensure continuity of school operations.
