Summary
The Systems Engineer II is a mid-level technical role responsible for supporting, maintaining, and optimizing enterprise infrastructure across on-premises and cloud environments. This role requires strong troubleshooting capabilities, hands-on engineering experience, and the ability to manage complex systems spanning hardware, virtualization, storage, and Azure cloud platform. The position plays a key role in incident escalation, system reliability, and driving infrastructure improvements. The System Engineer II reports directly to the Infrastructure Systems Manager.
Roles & Responsibilities
  • Serve as an escalation point for windows desktop support and infrastructure-related issues, resolving complex incidents
  • Administer and support Windows Server and Linux environments
  • Support VMware virtual infrastructure and associated workloads
  • Support and maintain Azure infrastructure, including Azure Resources and Permissions
  • Administer and troubleshoot enterprise storage systems (Isilon and Pure Arrays)
  • Provide support for Dell server hardware, including diagnostics and lifecycle management
  • Support backup and recovery systems (Commvault)
  • Support Microsoft PKI infrastructure, including certificate lifecycle management
  • Deploy and support containerized workloads (Docker / Kubernetes) where applicable
  • Perform root-cause analysis and implement long-term fixes for recurring issues
  • Monitor system performance and proactively identify optimization opportunities
  • Participate in infrastructure upgrades, migrations, and hardware refresh initiatives
  • Collaborate with network, security, application and service desk teams to support enterprise systems

Skills & Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience in systems engineering or infrastructure support
  • Desktop Support escalation experience (Tier 2/3 or equivalent)
  • Windows Server administration
  • Linux administration
  • VMware (vSphere/ESXi) experience
  • Azure infrastructure experience (IaaS/PaaS fundamentals, hybrid environments)
  • Dell server hardware experience, including RAID and storage concepts
  • Experience with enterprise storage platforms (Pure and Isilon)
  • Backup and recovery systems (Commvault)
  • Microsoft PKI / certificate services experience
  • Docker / Kubernetes / containerization fundamentals
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently on escalated issues and assigned systems

Preferred Skills
  • PowerShell or scripting/automation experience
  • Monitoring tools (SCOM, Azure Monitor, etc.)
  • Experience in hybrid Exchange or Microsoft 365 environments
  • Experience with infrastructure standardization and automation initiatives
  • Familiar with regular expressions

Educational Requirements
  • 4-year degree in IT or related field (or equivalent experience)
