Job Description

The Senior Storage Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, and operation of VERSANT’s enterprise storage platforms across multiple geographic data centers. This role supports large-scale storage environments used by critical media, production, and business systems, ensuring high availability, performance, and reliability.  

The engineer will manage and optimize enterprise SAN and NAS storage platforms, with a strong focus on Pure Storage, NetApp, and Dell/EMC Isilon systems. The role includes designing scalable storage architectures, supporting high-throughput workloads, managing replication and disaster recovery across sites, and maintaining operational excellence across distributed environments.  

This is a hands-on engineering role requiring deep technical expertise in enterprise storage platforms, storage networking, and performance optimization. The engineer will partner closely with infrastructure, compute, virtualization, and cloud teams to ensure storage services support both traditional data center workloads and evolving hybrid cloud environments.  

Key Responsibilities  

  • Storage Platform Engineering  
    • Design, deploy, and manage enterprise storage solutions across multiple geographic data centers.  
    • Architect and operate large-scale SAN and NAS storage environments supporting critical enterprise and media workloads.  
    • Manage and maintain storage systems including:  
    • Pure Storage  
    • NetApp  
    • Dell/EMC Isilon  
    • Plan and execute storage capacity growth, upgrades, and lifecycle management.  
  • Storage Architecture & Performance  
    • Design storage architectures optimized for performance, availability, and scalability.  
    • ·Support high-throughput workloads common in media and digital production environments.  
    • Perform storage performance analysis, tuning, and troubleshooting.  
    • Ensure storage systems meet operational SLAs for performance and reliability.  
  • Data Protection & Disaster Recovery  
    • Implement and maintain replication, snapshot, and backup strategies across geographically distributed storage systems.  
    • Design and support disaster recovery solutions across data centers.  
    • Ensure data protection policies align with business continuity requirements.  
    • Storage Networking & Integration  
    • Support SAN fabrics and storage networking infrastructure.  
    • Integrate storage platforms with compute, virtualization, and container environments.  
    • Collaborate with network and infrastructure teams to ensure reliable connectivity and performance.  
  • Operations & Support  
    • Monitor storage infrastructure and proactively address performance or capacity issues.  
    • Troubleshoot complex storage and data access problems.  
    • Participate in incident response and root cause analysis.  
    • Maintain documentation and operational standards for storage platforms.  
  • Collaboration & Modernization  
    • Partner with infrastructure, virtualization, and cloud teams to support evolving hybrid architectures.  
    • Support initiatives to modernize storage platforms and improve operational automation.  
    • Evaluate emerging storage technologies and recommend improvements.  
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.  
  • 7+ years of experience in enterprise storage engineering or storage infrastructure roles.  
  • Deep hands-on expertise with enterprise storage platforms including:  
  • Pure Storage  
  • NetApp  
  • Dell/EMC Isilon  
  • Strong experience managing both SAN and NAS storage architectures.  
  • Experience supporting large-scale storage environments across multiple geographic data centers.  
  • Strong understanding of storage networking technologies and SAN fabrics.  
  • Experience with storage replication, disaster recovery, and data protection strategies.  
  • Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning skills for enterprise storage systems.  
  • Experience integrating storage platforms with virtualization and compute environments.  
  • Experience with hybrid cloud or cloud-adjacent storage architectures is a plus.  
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
