In-School Intervention (ISI) Paraprofessional
Job Summary
To create an instructional program and school environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with students to motivate students to develop attitudes and knowledge needed to ensure a safe and ordely school environment.
Essential Job Expectations, Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Maintains regular attendance
2. Maintains confidentiality, unquestionable integrity
3. Complies with State Law and District policies and regulation
4. Maintains a safe environment for students, conducive to learning
5. Establishes, shares, and maintains standards of student behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere
6. Anticipates and effectively addresses unforeseen crises and follows Non-violent Crisis Intervention (CPI)
7. Keeps and maintains appropriate records and files as needed for the ISI room such as student's attendance and assignments from teachers
8. Assist in the collecting and returning of teacher assignments for students assigned to ISI without interrupting classroom instruction
9. Assists in maintaining a structured environment within the ISI room
10. Assists students academically by explaining the work as needed
11. Follow teacher's plans they have assigned to work with their students
12. Hold students responsible for finishing and correcting all work assigned
13. Assist in constantly monitoring students by remaining in the ISI room with them at all times
14. Only admit students to the ISI room that have been assigned via a referral

 
Other Duties/Performance Responsibilities

1. Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper manner of assistance for all students, including those with disabilities or other special needs.
2. Participate in in-service training programs, as assigned and/or required.
3. Abide by the Mansfield City Board of Education policies and regulations.
4. Perform other reasonably related duties as may be assigned by the Building Principal, and/or other administrator.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

1. Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
2. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, and perform arithmetic operations as needed to assist students.
3. Ability to understand, apply and use personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel).
4. Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.
5. Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others.
6. Ability to establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students with special needs.
7. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.
8. Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required.
9. Effective writing and verbal communication skills.

 
Qualifications:

1. Minimum high school diploma or G.E.D. certification required.
2. The State of Ohio Paraprofessional Standards require "two years education at an institution of higher learning OR an Associate Degree (or higher) OR demonstration through a formal state or local assessment, knowledge of, and ability to assist in instructing reading, writing and mathematics."
3. Possess or be able to secure a valid Ohio Education Aide permit from the Ohio Department of Education.
4. Willingness to attend a minimum of fifteen (15) hours of job-related in-service training each school year.
5. Knowledge and understanding of the special needs condition(s) of student(s), as relayed by the teacher.
6. Must be able to stand and sit for prolonged periods of time; bend, stoop, push, pull, and lift 25 pounds by herself/himself, and up to 50 pounds with the help of another staff person.
7. Demonstrated experience in a position requiring the use of independent judgment and discretion.
8. Experience functioning in a position or organization requiring group or team effort toward a goal.
9. Willing to get a substitute license-requirements for sub license are (one of the following):
10. Passed Paraprofessional Test, obtain 46 Semester Hours 72 Quarter Hours
11. Hold an Associates Degree or a Bachelors Degree

Working Conditions: Extensive sitting for prolonged periods of time each day.  Some stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, and lifting of supplies, materials, or assisting students, up to 25 pounds alone or 50 pounds with the help of another staff person.
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Conduct: Each staff member shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance and abuse of any prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.
Each staff member shall serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings. Each staff member has a moral responsibility to help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.
Terms of Employment: Per the Mansfield City Schools Board of Education/Mansfield School Employees Association Negotiated Agreement.
