Job description

Practice at the highest level of family law.

McKinley Irvin is Washington's most decorated family law firm – recognized by Best Law Firms® as a Tier 1 firm for 15 consecutive years, ranked Band 1 by Chambers High Net Worth, and home to eight Fellows of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. We're also a five-time Puget Sound Business Journal’s Best Workplace.

Family law is all we do, and we've spent over 30 years doing it at the highest level.

We are hiring an exceptional family law attorney to serve clients across Whatcom County. This job is fully remote.

You practice law. We do everything else.

We handle everything outside the practice of law so you can focus on your clients and your craft. That means dedicated client services staff who connect you with clients, skilled associates, paralegals, and legal assistants supporting your caseload, a client accounts manager, and in-house IT, accounting, and marketing teams behind you.

What working at MI looks like

  • Unmatched peer group. Our team of 50+ attorneys comprises colleagues who actively mentor and collaborate, and who have built a reputation for excellence, with 30 named to Super Lawyers and 36 selected by their peers for Best Lawyers in America.

  • Complex, intellectually stimulating work. Practice the full spectrum of family law, with the opportunity to work on high-asset and high-conflict cases, litigation, international and multi-jurisdictional matters, and more.

  • A firm that brings clients to you and helps you build your network. We maintain a high-visibility online presence and connect attorneys with clients, while supporting development of your referral network and professional reputation.

  • Career Development. From building your practice to developing a sub-specialty to pursuing leadership inside or outside the firm, we invest in your development through mentoring, case consulting, and practice development, not to mention MI University, our internal learning platform built to develop attorneys at every career stage.

  • Legal technology. We provide modern systems and tools to organize, streamline, and enhance your practice.

  • An engaging and supportive workplace where kindness, well-being, and mutual respect are at the heart of our culture.

Compensation & Benefits

Expected hiring range: $91,000-$175,000, commensurate with experience, plus a guaranteed quarterly bonus when you meet or exceed goals.

Benefits include:

  • Choice of PPO or HDHP medical plans; two dental plan options; vision coverage
  • 401(k) with generous employer matching
  • Flexible PTO starting at three weeks, plus 10 paid company holidays
  • Group life and disability insurance; Employee Assistance Program
  • Commuter subsidies
  • College-bound-graduate laptop program
  • Fully remote role, technology for home office provided

Who we are looking for

You have meaningful experience in Washington family law (3+ years) and a genuine commitment to your clients. Beyond the credentials, we're looking for attorneys who share our values:

  • Tenacious advocates – relentlessly pursuing the best possible outcome for every client
  • Compassionate, proactive, strategic, and ethical in every aspect of their representation
  • Committed to world-class client service – because that's the standard we hold ourselves to
  • Outstanding stewardship – accountable to clients, colleagues, and community

If this describes how you practice law, let's talk.

Send your resume and cover letter to legalcareers@mckinleyirvin.com. All inquiries are strictly confidential.

All inquiries will be treated confidentially. McKinley Irvin is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

***We do not accept inquiries from agencies.***
