Job description

Building friendships and community through shared learning experiences has been core to Irish Arts Center’s mission since 1972. We are delighted to provide learning and engagement experiences for everyone—from anywhere!—with in-person and online classes in music, dance, Irish language, and storytelling.  

Job Summary:

Irish Arts Center is looking to hire an experienced Irish Language Instructor to teach online courses in total beginner to advanced beginner level Irish, as part of our Fall 2026, Winter 2027 and Spring 2027 education terms.  Irish Arts Center students are adult learners with little to no experience with Irish and are generally seeking a basic introduction to the language regarding vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar, and practical use in conversation.  

The position pays $65-70 an hour for online classes and/or $70-75 hour for In Person classes based on prior experience.  Classes are held for 1.5 hour class sessions and run for 8 weeks per term. Online classes are held via the ZOOM Platform and In Person classes are held at Irish Arts Center located at 726 11th Avenue NY, NY 10019.  This is a 4.5 hour per week commitment based on the number of classes taught as follows: 

  • Instructor will teach one (1) 90-minute class for 8 sessions held on Mondays between 7:30PM EST, ONLINE via the Zoom Platform.   
  • Instructor will teach two (2) 90-minute class for 8 sessions held on Wednesdays between 6-9PM EST, IN PERSON at Irish Arts Center.   
  • These classes are held over an 8-week term beginning September 21, 2026 and culminating on June 14th, 2027. (Please note that no IN-PERSON class will be held on federal holidays as the buildings are closed.)  
  • Classes are taught online via the ZOOM platform and IN PERSON at Irish Arts Center  

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  • Plan and teach three (3) 90-minute classes on the Irish Language which focus on vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar, and practical use in conversation for total beginner to advanced beginners.    
  • Communicate with students and IAC staff as needed to ensure the success of the program 
  • Share class resources and recordings with students via the Zoom platform and via email  

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • 3 plus years of experience teaching the Irish Language, preferably to adult learners  
  • Accreditation in Irish Language Instruction  
  • Experience teaching online via the Zoom Platform
  • Knowledge of the Irish language community in New York City  

Working Requirements:

  • This is an in-person and remote position, requiring on site attendance at the discretion of management.
  • This job requires US work authorization. In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire. IAC participates in E-Verify.
