Adjunct Positions

Bergen Community College is accepting applications for adjunct positions in the World Languages department for Summer and Fall 2026. Below are the disciplines we are currently hiring for and the requirements for each.

World Language Department

The mission of the department of world languages and cultures at Bergen Community College is to foster the study of thirteen languages offered at the College and to further the experience for those students who wish to continue learning a language previously studied. The department offers the following courses: American Sign Language, Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Hebrew, Irish, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Russian and Spanish. Courses in the world languages and cultures department develop students' appreciation for other cultures and other ways of living and thinking. Liberal Arts students may choose World Languages as an option or "major" by taking two general education Humanities in World Languages (6 credits) and two free electives in World Languages.

We are currently looking for adjuncts for the following courses:

American Sign Language (ASL): Required: Master's degree in American Sign Language/Deaf Studies or Bachelor's degree + native speaker; ASLTA certification preferred; minimum two years teaching experience at high school and/or college level. Applicant must be willing to teach day or evening classes in Paramus and/or Lyndhurst.

German: Required: Master's degree in German Language or Literature (or native speaker + degree); two years teaching experience at the high school or college level. Applicant must be available to teach day and/or evening sections in Paramus and/or Lyndhurst.

Hebrew: Required: Master's degree in Hebrew Language or Literature (or native speaker + degree); two years teaching experience at the high school or college level. Applicant must be available to teach day and/or evening sections in Paramus and/or Lyndhurst.

Japanese: Required: Master's degree in Japanese Language or Literature (or native speaker + degree); two years teaching experience at the high school or college level. Applicant must be available to teach day and/or evening sections in Paramus and/or Lyndhurst.

Russian: Required: Master's degree in Russian Language or Literature (or native speaker + degree); two years teaching experience at the high school or college level. Applicant must be available to teach day and/or evening sections in Paramus and/or Lyndhurst.

Spanish: Required: Master's degree in Spanish Language or Literature (or native speaker + degree); two years teaching experience at the high school or college level. Applicants must be available to teach day or evening sections in Paramus and/or Lyndhurst.

Rates and Benefits:

  • Adjunct rate is $960 a credit for adjuncts with a Masters.
  • Tuition Waiver for BCC courses for themselves or their dependents
  • ABP and 403b
