Job description

Position Summary
Iona University seeks a dynamic and experienced Irish Dance coach to lead its Irish Dance Ensemble and Competition Team. This role oversees choreography, rehearsals, performances, and competitions while fostering an inclusive, student-centered program that supports both competitive excellence and broad participation. This is a part-time stipend position, renewable annually based on performance.
Coaching & Choreography
  • Teach and choreograph routines for performances and competitions
  • Develop material for dancers at all skill levels, from beginner to advanced
  • Incorporate both solo and group (céilí) dance styles
  • Plan and lead weekly rehearsals for the full Ensemble and Competition teams
  • Maintain a structured, progressive learning & training environment
  • Prepare choreography and training plans for CIDA competitions

Ensemble Leadership & Administration
  • Coordinate and attend all performances (campus and community), ensuring strong participation and professional representation
  • Recruit prospects through intentional outreach efforts to individuals, Irish Dance Schools, and scholastic programs
  • Lead planning of major events, including the annual Irish Cultural Showcase with the Iona Pipe Band
  • Manage competition logistics, travel coordination, and governing body compliance
  • Support student success and retention through mentorship, advisement, and resource awareness
  • Assist with budgeting, fundraising, and day-to-day team operations, including scheduling, communications, and overall program logistics.

Qualifications
- Experience coaching or choreographing Irish dance (TRCG preferred)
- Strong knowledge of competitive and performance-based Irish dance
- Ability to teach dancers with varied experience levels
- Availability for evenings, weekends, and travel
- Demonstrated leadership, recruitment, and mentorship skills
